Police responded to an active shooting at Columbia Mall in Maryland shortly after 11:00 a.m. ET. Three people are confirmed dead and the mall remains on lockdown.
UPDATE, 12:40p ET: People inside the mall are being told to wait until they are escorted out. The scene is believes to be secure.
UPDATE, 12:34p ET: Randy Brooks, owner of Edward Arthur Jewelers at Columbia Mall, told Uma Pemmaraju that he heard a couple of pops and then saw people running. He said it appeared that the shooter had a shotgun and was killed, but police have not confirmed that. Brooks said others have reportedly been taken to the hospital.

We saw the film yesterday and 5 minutes into the film I heard some guy in the back say, “hey shut that off”.
Holy crap, I was waiting for the shooting to start, not in the movie but behind me somewhere.
Police said via their Twitter account that Brianna Benlolo, 21, of College Park and Steve Johnson, 25, of Ellicott City were the two victims.

A tragedy took place at a mall in the city of Columbia, Maryland today. Brianna Benlolo, an assistant manager at Zumiez, was shot and killed. Another man, believed to be her boyfriend, and the gunman also died in the rampage. Initial reports indicate the shooting spree may have been a result of a love triangle.

The incident took place shortly past 11 AM local time. Witnesses said a man opened fire at close range to kill both victims. He then turned the gun on himself.

Law enforcement sources told NBCNews that the shooting appears to have begun with a domestic dispute. However, Howard County Police have not confirmed that report, saying the motive remains unknown and they do not know the identity of the shooter.
At any rate, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed the movie and that it was all it was cracked up to be on the various FR threads.

See post 25. You probably parked right next to another Freeper and never knew it! The fact that it was the Mall at Columbia was somewhat surprising to me. Now.. the Mall at Wheaton... I expect that.

I read that there was a shotgun next to the shooter’s body.
I live in Howard county.
Looks like two young 20s employees of a small store got it.
Man FNC was pouring praise on Howard county police, and they had little info.
Someone they had on the phone called them ‘one of the best trained in the country’
Hell, the killer was dead before they got anywhere near him.
I started following the coverage on WJZ. They kept bringing up the, as they put it, ‘gun debate’ and also repeated several times that Maryland has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country.
God help us. Annapolis is in session.
Our house, parents’ house, and DH’s work all 10 min from it.
I had no idea until hubby came to parents’ tonight from work, who had been called by his mom in PA to see if he was OK.

IMHO, hardly anyone is catching that little detail...I suspected as much and confirmed it just prior to searching to see if anyone else pointed that out. Beat me to it.
I thought the same thing,but I found it more interesting to watch it nationally on FNC and MSNBC, I really cant stomach Maryland local news channels, seeing Martin O Malley’s face and his voice gets me mad.
Did that shooter take Martin O Malley’s gun mandated safety course?
