The Oscar-winning actor, 46, was found dead in a New York City apartment just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday — with a syringe still in his arm.

Law enforcement sources told NBC News that authorities at the scene found roughly 50 bags of heroin, numerous syringes, addiction treatment medication, blood pressure medication, and a muscle relaxant.

Allegedly had 70 “packets” of smack in his appt., in addition to God knows what else.

Just a bit of a drug problem, I’d say...

At first glance, I had a little compassion.

Finding out he’s helping Bloomie... Nah.

No loss.

The way the guy’s being hailed, you’d think he cured a disease or created a useful algorithm.

Celebrity worship.

Stupidity is a self-inflicted wound.

No loss.

Some freeper said that doubted that Philip Seymour Hoffman "was part of the typical liberal Hollywood crowd". Why? I always presume prominent Hollywood actors are liberal unless proven otherwise. Probably 90% of them are hard-core Obama supporters.

I'll admit the guy didn't seem like the "type" to be a hardcore heroin addict though. Felt the same way when Chris Farley died of a speedball. I could picture the guy out of control from drinking too much at a beer guzzling party with his pals, but NOT injecting cocaine and heroin.

One less Lib advocating my disarmament.

No loss.

Yep, he was definitely a lefty, albeit one who promoted liberal causes under the radar:

I’m sorry to say that I have little sympathy. He brought this completely on himself and selfishly left behind three young kids.

I’ll say this for Philip Seymour Hoffman though: at least he was a genuinely talented actor and focused more on his acting career than his liberal beliefs in public. A few months ago, the media was going nuts because Paul Walker died, and his “acting” career had consisted almost entirely of street racing action films. While it was an ironic death that died from a car crash, his career wasn’t in the same league of a real actor like Hoffman.

“...I’m sorry to say that I have little sympathy. ...”

I’m not sorry to say it, good brother.

I understand what you’re saying, but I won’t be polite to people who advocate the use of coercive force to strip me of my rights, and who actively contribute their money and time to said cause.

Whether he was “quietly” supporting liberal cause or out in the street screaming about it, it all comes down to the same thing. He’s helping people I consider the enemy of all that I hold dear.

One less clown that’s supporting the erasure of my culture with their Hollywood pulpit, money, and celeb status.

If that’s harsh, well... it’s a cold world, and made colder by folks on the left who don’t understand “Live and Let Live”.

Apparently he had MAJOR drug problems (”I’d abuse anything”) in his youth and relapsed last year (went to rehab).

His longtime GF and baby momma split with him not long ago. Probably because he started using again. He was supposed to meet her and the kids in a park, she didn’t want him to be alone with them I guess.

He was always critically acclaimed, I don’t remember seeing much of him (or maybe any of him) but I hear a lot ABOUT how great he is. I guess critics and fellow actors seemed to haved loved him more than the public did.

Sad and pathetic. I just can’t see it.

I know that when I was in the hospital for my leg, the “stuff” stopped working pretty quickly - they had to switch my “dope” a couple times.

When I’ve gone for my follow-ups, the surgeon was shocked when I told him I hadn’t taken anything after I was discharged for a week.

Geez. He died *again today? He's been announced as DOA every day for the past few days. How many times/days will this be *snooze*? He would have been great as Michael Skakel in a bioflick.

You hear a lot about people becoming addicted to pain meds (opioids). If one can soldier through the pain instead that’s probably smart.
