It’s getting even easier, particularly in Colorado.

I don’t think he was big on cultural Marxism, either.

Dennis Miller has a story about doing a [private] show in LA for some elites, and a joke about LA cops not pulling over shabby vehicles with less than the required number of people in the carpool lane if the driver was Hispanic-looking elicited gasps of disapproval from the audience.

Miller said PSH came up to him after the show, and told him “it was a good joke, not to mention it was true.”

RIP

This article is super sad. He talks about how he was glad he was an addict before he was rich and famous because otherwise, he’d have been dead. And how he wanted to live, how he was scared in 2012 and got himself straight. This was definitely accidental last night and it’s just so sad.

A family saw him walking down a street yesterday, sober and friendly, he have fived them.

What a loss.

PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN TELLS STEVE KROFT THE TURNING POINT IN HIS LIFE WAS GIVING UP ALCOHOL AND DRUGS — “60 MINUTES” SUNDAY ON CBS

If Philip Seymour Hoffman hadn’t gone into rehab, his career and his life may not have lasted long enough for him to be nominated for best actor at this year’s Oscars. For the first time publicly, the actor hailed for his performance as Truman Capote talks about his decision to get help for substance abuse in a 60 MINUTES profile to be broadcast Sunday, Feb. 19 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Fresh out of New York University’s drama school, Hoffman was lured into New York City’s fast life. “It was all that [drugs and alcohol], yeah, it was anything I could get my hands on...I liked it all,” he tells Kroft.

But he saw the need to change early. “I went [to rehab], I got sober when I was 22 years old,” says the 38-year-old Oscar nominee. “You get panicked...and I got panicked for my life,” says Hoffman. “It really was just that.”

He also realizes that getting sober before he got famous was a blessing. It makes him look at today’s young acting stars in a concerned way. “I have so much empathy for these young actors that are 19 and all of a sudden they’re beautiful and famous and rich,” Hoffman says. “I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I’d be dead.’ You know what I mean? I’d be 19, beautiful, famous and rich. That would be it,” he tells Kroft. “I think back at that time. I think if I had the money, that kind of money and stuff. So, yeah [I would have died].”

Hoffman’s revelation was a rare candid moment for the journeyman actor, who has performed in 40 films in 14 years and remains humble despite his recent stardom. He tells Kroft he prefers not to reveal too much about himself for fear of hampering the characters he plays onscreen. “I think part of being an actor is staying private....Part of doing my job is that they [in the audience] believe I’m someone else,” he says. “You don’t want people to know everything about your personal life or they’re going to project that also on the work you do,” says Hoffman.

Yep a great actor. What a shame. I think I read a few months ago that he cleaned himself up. He had a decade plus of sobriety when he made a lot of his best films.

I would execute all heroin dealers (dealing above minor amounts) and here is one more reason why. All those libertarian-liberal-libertine numbskulls who want legal marijuana? This will backfire too.

I had to check his bio to see all of his movies. The only ones I saw were Scent of a Woman and Moneyball.

The strangest thing is that with both movies I remember thinking to myself that he looked a little "off" on screen. Something about him just didn't look right, and it doesn't surprise me to learn that he'd been dealing with substance abuse problems for years.

Great actor, though. What a shame.

Although I am surprised, I did notice he seemed less vibrant and more 'muddy' over the last few years in his performances. I sensed he was using and abusing drugs. Unfortunately I was right. As someone who has been sober and clean for many years and spent many an AA in attendance with with A list actors such as Hoffman, it really hits home the seriousness of the disease and shows that it is a daily deprive given to all recovering people based on there relying on God and doing the footwork of not picking up a drink or drug.

Very sad indeed. But a reminder to all of us that think we got this thing after years of recovery.

Hoffman was a fantastic and gifted actor and thank God he had a pause in his disease that we got to see his God given talent soar. May he rest in peace.

Thanks for the list of movies. Which one starred Hoffman and his sister (?) when they had to put their mother in a nursing home? Thanks in advance.

My brother wanted to be an actor, went to the Boston Conservatory and then NYC. Did some off Broadway stuff and then hit a dead end.

The family decided that he was wasting his time and we sent him back to school he did well and is now well off.

He and I are drinking buddies, very close. In his opinion, not mine, most actors are seriously screwed up.

Decent actor, liked him in a number of roles. Having a hard time working up an RIP for someone who does “10 day detox” and thinks he’s cured, however.

Wonder if nObama will compare Hoffmann to his mythical “If I had a son...”?
