We’ll leave in a hundred years or when Johnny Mac and Peter King say so.
Afghanistan is the staging ground from which Qatar, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Iran make war upon us.
We removed the enemy in that country and then allowed them to come back by instituting cowardly rules of engagement. That’s the way it looks to me.
Sadly this will probably resonate with his voters.
That ambulatory sea sponge Bob Casey got elected with pitches to Pennsyltucky voters that “all of the money that should be spent creating YOUR jobs and securing YOUR benefits has been WASTED in Afghanistan and Iraq by that EEEEEEVIL George W. Bush!”
There you go.
That's a fact of life.
We invaded Afghanistan because the Taliban wouldn't turn over bin laden. Then, in 2010, thru foia, a document was released from NSC that ISI and the Taliban were still negotiating over bin Laden when Prez Cheney made the decision to invade.
So bin Laden and the Taliban hightailed it to Paki, se we decided to invade Iraq, it wouldn't take long to set Chalabi on the throne. But we got stuck in Iraq, and while we were there, the Taliban returned to Afghanistan and took over.
By then the Coindinistas had taken over the marines and army so Bush decided to run a counter-insurgency in Afghanistan, and dumbass Obama said he would too, if he was elected.
But, by late 2009, Obama figured out the counterinsurgency wasn't working, but the neocons accused him of dithering and held his feet to the fire, so Obama sent another 60 thou troops into the big muddy. But they are coming out now.
But we need to leave some troops there in case the Afghanistan civil war spreads to Paki and fundamentalist try to capture Paki's nuclear arsenal.
The terrain is so mountainous there could be thousands of troops in one valley and thousands of Taliban in the next, with a mountain in between and they would never meet. They are totally tribal and make and break alliances with each other as they perceive a need to do so. There is no basis for free market enterprise, no education to speak of, especially for women, no precedence for democratic govt.--in deed, no understanding of such.
We are totally wasting men and money there, and doubtless much of the funding has gone astray nto the pockets of Karzai and family/friends.
We didn't learn anything from the Russians, who tried for over 20 years to conquer the tribes.
Out NOW!

The faster we run away, the more that Iran gets encouraged.
If we are wasting men and money, it’s purely down to the rules of engagement, not because we can’t conquer the terrain (I think we could; it takes gathering of intelligence, which thanks to the liberals is another lost art).
No, it’s a defeatist mindset. Those with the will make the facts in life.
Yeah.
We are bleeding resources that may be needed elsewhere, while actually losing ground formerly gained.

That could be quickly reversed by going on the offensive. Instead, ROE dictate a purely defensive and pseudo-chivalrous stance.
If a culture/population does not want to evolve and mature from the 7th century into the 21th century, and persist in killing others, nuke them, it's the only way to be sure they don't reproduce. - M Kehoe

Its a shia sunni thingy
They get over that quickly when it comes to the Great Satan. Iran wants to build bridges across the Muslim World anyhow.

troops on the ground was one of the biggest mistakes of bush along with homeland security and tsa. like nixon and the epa. and the biggest mistake of reagan was supporting the muhajadeen instead of letting them and the soviets slaughter each other. the first 3 are not hindsight but obvious from the beginning. reagan’s is hindsight.
Kharzai is already negotiating with the taliban. What in the world are we there for? Better to bring the boys home and invade our true enemy Mexico and kill every SOB cartel member. Then occupy for 10 years. Why not? If you want to nation build what better country than Mexico? That way we can get all the cockroaches to go back home.
