The premise is that allowing this amounts to state sanction of a religion, which is based upon the false premises that the first amendment forbids allowing prayer by school officials, and that the state can antiseptically separate itself from any sign of support of religion, versus formally establishing a religion.

However, the state cannot separate itself moral beliefs upon which its laws are based because they flowed from religion. And in the US, laws are to reflect the moral beliefs of the Founders as expressed in the Constitution etc., and which rejected a theocracy but not any laws which had religious basis, or such basic nondenominational practices as general prayers, and other positive recognition of faith which they overall provided, in contrast to atheistic governments.

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." - John Adams "...reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle." - Geo. Washington. And which was historically seen in education in America

This does mean some will be offended by such practices as prayer, just like anarchists object to government in general, but this country was not founded by Muslims, atheism or anarchists (but as with the church, principled dissent was involved). Conversely, by never officially (in gov. offices, education, etc.) express dependance upon or gratitude to anyone greater than itself, then the state essentially fosters atheism (contrary to its past), and deifies itself<

To suppose that the authors of the Constitution understood civil rights as applying to immoral practices such as homosexual relations reveals an interpretive hermeneutic that is not based upon what the Founders intended in the light of their moral foundation, but on what contemporary judges can read into it.

However, laws will also reflect the real beliefs of the electorate, and whose representatives directly or indirectly interpret the Constitution, and as the US has become increasingly less Christian in real commitment, so it has increasingly lacked wisdom and become more deceived in whom it elects, and in who is offered for office in "government by the people."

The results of wrong choices are abundantly statistically manifest in costs to lives, souls and money.

Smack the Atheist in the face, and continue to pray for him.

The atheists are not happy simply outright rejecting the possibility of a supreme being. They have become in-your-face obnoxious; they are now bolder and meaner.

“It is a violation of the Constitution for the Mooresville High School football coach to organize, lead, or participate in prayers or other religious proselytizing before, during, or after games and practices,”

That is completely and utterly false and furthermore it is a bald faced lie. And the atheists know it.

What is unconstitutional is the State saying that people cannot exercise their faith freely. That IS in the 1st amendment to the Constitution.

Prominent? Only to an evil and perverse generation.

>>However, laws will also reflect the real beliefs of the electorate<<

And therein lays our problem as a nation doesn’t it. Even those who claim to be Christian vote to elect representatives that support and install laws that directly contradict the God they purport to serve.

re: “If he tried baptizing my Catholic kids I would do everything I could to end the man’s career.”

Read the whole article. He did NOT baptize anyone - he was invited by a student to come SEE that same student get baptized by that student’s church. The coach was only viewing the baptism as a guest of that student.

The only answer is to eliminate public school. This is based on the constitution and court rulings. I see no alternative. If public school is ended then we would have private, homeschool, and religious education to take its place.

When Freepers want public school in the USA to be Godly it is like wanting a square to be circular? Shift focus I say.

Note the media game. When a conservative person is in the news they are ‘controversial’. Doesn’t matter that 40% of the country calls themselves conservative (the largest plurality of any grouping), and that 40-70% agree on almost any one issue being discussed.

When the atheists speak, they are ‘prominent’, while we are controversial.

The premise is that allowing this amounts to state sanction of a religion,

Complete nonsense. It's just respecting the coach's and a majority of the team's religious practices, and pretty much a LONGTERM PRACTICE by athletes round the world.

It's not that the 'state' wants to stop the practice of praying... we guarantee that to the Muslims... it's that they were using Christian Religious practices to do so. And that is what is being forbidden.

Freedom From Religion Foundation

About the Foundation FAQ

Why is the Foundation concerned with state/church entanglement?

First Amendment violations are accelerating. The religious right is campaigning to raid the public till and advance religion at taxpayer expense, attacking our secular public schools, the rights of nonbelievers, and the Establishment Clause.

The Foundation recognizes that the United States was first among nations to adopt a secular Constitution. The founders who wrote the U.S. Constitution wanted citizens to be free to support the church of their choice, or no religion at all. Our Constitution was very purposefully written as a godless document, whose only references to religion are exclusionary.

It is vital to buttress the Jeffersonian “wall of separation between church and state” which has served our nation so well.

Lies.

One wonders why a prominent atheist activist organization (commie front), which considers itself to be intellectually superior, would bother to attack those who believe there is a God ? Wouldn’t you just refer to them as ignorant peons and let it go ?

Even if he did, which he didn't...

Why is it an issue if your kids were baptized...?

Baptism in itself is a symbolic act not a means to your salvation...

I do certainly understand why you would be angry...
