It was only last week here in Panama that I was talking to a Pepsi truck driver from Philadelphia. They'll be coming for you sugar guys next, I said. It's already started, he retorted. In Philadelphia recently, the union bussed the drivers down to City Hall to protest a tax on sugar.
Now we read that the trial lawyers are going for a repeat on the Big Tobacco shakedown of the 1990s. They want the state attorneys general to sue Big Food to "pay for soaring obesity-related health care costs." And why not? Back in the 1990s, Big Law got Big Tobacco to pony up $420 billion to pay into state slush funds for soaring tobacco-related health care costs.
What a deal that was! Four hundred and twenty billion for lawyers and politicians to spread out among their closest friends!
Only it turned out, far too late, that smokers actually cost the government less money than ordinary folks. Yes, smokers cost a bundle in health care costs, but they die before collecting on their Social Security benefits, so government actually comes out ahead on smokers. So did the trial lawyers, the spunky fellahs, so everybody wins.
The New York Times is helping the trial lawyers out by weighing in on the contribution of "added sugar" on heart attacks

I drink more water now and not their bottled water.
Sounds like they have a Plan B for when they finally manage to kill off the tobacco industry.
Why go to the source, and go after the corn syrup industry?
Oh wait, that was created by federal subsidies.
I meant: “Why NOT go to the source...”
I don’t use ANY Coke or Pepsi products. Don’t believe in their one world b.s. and won’t knowingly give them a penny. Screw ‘em.
Another reason to use Sodastream.
I don’t like being an “I told you so” type gal............but
WE TOLD YOU SO!!!
Yes, this actually started with the Asbestos law suits in the ‘70s, moved to Tobacco, then to Microsoft, Intel, Wallmart.
Once a company is targeted, then don’t let up until they get $$$ AND DNC funding.
Intel was a Republican company ran by Republicans until the anti-trust suits of 2004.
Cuomo of NY alledged unfair practices with AMD which NY was helping in a new fab.
AMD got a 1B, NY got funding for a new fab.
End result is AMD is STILL dying as a company, NY is trying to find a buyer for the fab, Intel is out $1b.
Biggest change is Intel has become a DNC supporter.
Law suits have stopped which is what Intel wanted.
It was inevitable.
I cut all pop out of my diet about three years ago. Was the best health move I’ve ever made. Has resulted in being 15 lbs. lighter and infinitely less likely to develop diabetes.
Never drink anything with more calories than 0.
Coke Zero.
Pepsi Max. I love it.
What a deal that was! Four hundred and twenty billion for lawyers and politicians to spread out among their closest friends!
Repeat is a formula that works I guess.
Not going to make Warren Buffett happy.
Indeed
...the union bussed the drivers down to City Hall....

They bussed them? I guess it was in honor of St. Valentine’s Day. Hope they enjoyed the smooches.
That said, gee, I feel so sorry for Pepsi — Obama lovers— and Coke — one worlders. Glad I don’t drink any of that junk anyway.
I have drank coke (2-3 a day) and only coke for over 50 years. I quit after the new coke commercial. Withdrawals are no fun.
