This is the dramatic moment a mother-of-two opened fire with an assault rifle on intruders who tried to smash their way into her home.
The woman took action after three hooded individuals kicked down the door of her Detroit home on Monday night where she lives with her two young children.
She fired off rounds in a bid to deter the would-be burglars, later saying she 'didn't have time to get scared'. The unnamed mother told WXYZ Detroit: 'I let them know I had a gun once they were in the house and they challenged me and said "no you don't have a gun" so that's when I shot off the first round.

As the intruders fled the home while shots rang out, one dropped a handgun. He grabbed it and tried to get back into the house but was scared off by more shots.
All three suspects are seen running through thick snow from the house. No one was hurt in the incident.
Police arrested three teenage suspects a short time later.

Yep. It is an excellent and affordable little rifle but it is hardly an "assault rifle". As it is in a pistol caliber it is quite easy for a woman to shoot and control which makes it very good for home defense. It is also deadly and these thugs were darned lucky she wasn't aiming it at them even though she should have been.
I am glad that the homeowner and her family are ok.
The pistol caliber carbine is a decent choice for home defense but certainly not the best.
The best home defense (for the typical suburban home) in order are:
1. Shotgun
2. full size pistol or revolver
3. pistol caliber carbine (higher velocity more likely to over penetrate than the first two options)
4. rifle (most likely to over-penetrate and cause bystander injuries)
If no firearms are available, a good Louisville slugger baseball bat is better than nothing at all. I have one of these in my truck (just in case I decide to play baseball or something...LOL)
Having said all that, any weapon that deters or stops a crime without hurting innocent people is an effective weapon in that particular situation.
Why in hell do we only get this kind of news from the UK? What is wrong with our dipship media? Can’t we just get rid of our dipship media and tell them all ‘go to hell’?

I believe the 9mm takes 15 rd mags.
I have been very seriously considering buying a high point carbine or a keltec Sub 2000. The Keltec is a little more expensive but is foldable ; whereas, the High Point is more affordable and rugged.
Doesn’t look like this gun was well cared for.
Also, from the article, the mother slammed a bedroom door on the arm of the armed intruder, who dropped his pistol.
Her ten year old son picked up the gun and fired at the perp.
Then Momma popped off a shot.
Two of the intruders were dressed as FedEx employees. Teenage sisters answered the door.
First clue, fedex drivers don’t come to the door,in pairs.
That sure takes the “ugly” off those Planet of the Apes looking High Points. Good price too.

Police followed the new yellow and brown spots in the thick snow and easily tracked the terrorized thugs and arrested them a short time later.
