Sbarro Inc. says it's closing 155 of its U.S. locations, mostly in mall food courts where traffic has declined. The Melville, N.Y.-based pizza chain said Wednesday the closures affect 1,400 workers. The move comes as the company is trying to improve its financial performance and update its image under yet another CEO who took over just last year. Jonathan Dedmon, a representative for Sbarro, says the targeted locations will close Thursday. "The last day of business is today," he wrote in an email. Sbarro filed for bankruptcy protection in April 2012 when it was no longer able to contend with declining sales and rising costs. It emerged from Chapter 11 protection in November 2012, saying that it had significantly cut its debt and received a new $35 million capital infusion. Shortly after, it named James Greco, a former head of bagel chain Bruegger's Enterprises, as its CEO. Greco led a push to revitalize the chain's image by touting new recipes and ovens. But the efforts apparently didn't take hold; Sbarro named David Karam its CEO last year. Dedmon did not respond when asked why Greco was replaced. Sbarro owns 400 locations in North America. The closures do not affect the additional 175 Sbarro locations in the region that are owned by franchisees. After the closures, Sbarro said it will operate 800 stores worldwide, including 81 that were opened last year.

given all the different locations I see Sabarro in, about half of them seem losy, to me, so the move does not surprise me
The oneI ate at a cuple of months ago nust have had the new menu and ovens. It was actually pretty good, even if it was priced a bit too high.
But the name will always annoy me. The “B” coming after the “S”....
Maybe Sbarro put too many eggs in one basket?
Turnpikes. I have to travel the Pennsylvania and Ohio turnpikes afew times each year and one, if not both, of them have Sbarros at their rest areas.
Ahh, never mind...it’s an Anthony’s, but the situation is the same.
Every slice was from Tony's or Gino's or Regina's in the nawth end ... still there I'm told, but not the same.
Sbarro Pizza is lousy. When we go to the mall, we go to the food court, but mostly at Chik-Fil-A (or if it Sunday, McDonald’s). What we like is Red Robin or Johnny Rocket’s.
So you are getting a job at Dominos....:)
25 years ago I had a delivery job at Dominoes. Believe it or not - they used to be good. And a large Supreme would set you back about $20.00.
But now? Fast forward 25 years, and you can get that same pizza for about 10 bucks.
How do you think thats possible?
lololol
I know you know how thats possible.
lololol
Pizza is a relatively simple food, and it’s not hard (or expensive) to make it tasty. Taking a cold slice of lousy pizza and throwing it back in the oven for a minute isn’t one of those ways.
Their pizza sucks.
Is your particular ‘nawth end’ in Boston or do you live in another location which also has a ‘nawth?’ If the former, had you tried ‘santahpios?’
I end up at my local mall once per year for an optometrist visit. On several occasions after being shown intentionally and increasingly blurred letters I’ve made the mistake of eating at such establishments. My body is still purging the sodium chloride from the experience.
That’s a shame. I know I’m in the minority here, but I love their pizza. We only have one, and it’s in a mall on the other side of town. I’ve gone to that mall just for their pizza. They have good salads, and I’ve also had their chicken and potatoes - both delicious. I hope ours isn’t closing. Every time I’m at that mall it’s crowded, so I wouldn’t think so.

Bostin's uniqueness earns the right to be called a state, though it was really my own lack of functioning brain cells that typed that ...

Bosonyin is really, BosTonyin, which, for the same aforementioned reasoned truly gahbulled and cunfuzed an already cunfuzed keyboard.
What’s the draw of a mall food court? High prices? Wildings? Sales taxes? Travel?
This is death by government and the Internet is simply speeding the process.
