Ehlers was awarded the Medal of Honor ‘for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty’ on June 9 and 10, 1944, according to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. He ‘repeatedly led his men against heavily defended enemy strong points exposing himself to deadly hostile fire whenever the situation required heroic and courageous leadership.’ Ehlers heroically defended his unit from ‘withering machine gun fire’ and mortars, personally killing at least seven Nazi soldiers, taking out multiple enemy positions

If you read the Daily Mail piece, you can see that they just picked it up from NBC.

Aside from Christ on his way to Calvary,
have there ever been any other men who were
so certain they were about to give up their
lives for others?

Bummer. MOH recpients are the very best of us. There was a time when a grateful nation looked upon these men in awe and thankfulness. There are many excellent books(nothing by Brokaw or Rather) that detail some of the heroics of our MOH winners. What some of these men did for their fellow soldiers is beyond words. Learning about it from the DM is a kick in the balls and an indictment of our leftist media.

My Dad was there on that beach those same days. He earned a bronze star, a silver star, and a purple heart. They may have even been in the same unit.

True.

I don’t equate anyone in the Senate with a MOH winner.
This guy had stones bigger than all the Senate.

““Saving Private Ryan” did a good job of portraying that.”

My Dad died long before that movie came out, but when I first saw it was like he wrote the script. He told me what it was like, and watching it was like seeing his words played out.

It really was kinda spooky, right down to the guys puking on the ride in the landing craft.

I remember him saying his brother had been killed in Italy just before D Day and how determined it had made him. We can only wonder where we get such fine men s those who fought and beat the Axis.

No, someone must have hacked the site. The National oBama Channel would never post that story.
