Drought: Feds cut water to Central Valley farmers to zero [California Democrats don't give a dam]
sfgate ^ | Feb 22, 2014 | Kurtis Alexander

Central Valley farmers took a crippling blow Friday when U.S. officials made the unprecedented announcement that they would get no irrigation water from the federal government this year because of the drought.

But growers in a region with the country's most productive soil said the loss of one of their chief water supplies won't be their problem alone: Consumers will be hit hard in the form of higher prices at the produce market.

California's unusually dry weather is forcing producers of fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains to make tough decisions about which crops to plant, and which ones not to plant due to a lack of water, leaving harvests that are likely to fall short of demand.

A recent estimate by an industry group, the California Farm Water Coalition, suggested that as much as 600,000 acres of land, or about 8 percent of the state's total, could be left fallow in the coming year.

~~snip~~

Jay Lund, who heads the Center for Watershed Sciences at UC Davis, said products from other parts of the world will fill some of the void, easing the impact on price.

"They'll go up a little bit," Lund said. "But I don't think it will be catastrophic. Time will tell."

We’re talking the survival of the source of 1/4 of America’s food. Idiots.””

Everything I have read for many years says that California is the source for 1/2 of the food this nation eats.

I guess the politicians are all going to be eating Wagu beef from Japan.

It is amazing how many have seen it and forget about the water and its control

I've never forgotten it. The "mother, sister, mother" stuff is what most people focused on. The WATER was the main story.

This is what the Commies did in Eastern Europe for years. Destroyed the countries farmers and put their 5 year plans to work and we saw the results of that.

Sounds totally logical.

When I read what's in the $800B "stimulus" when ObaMao came into office, I saw $40B for electronic medical records. I remember thinking "what the heck, there aren't even laws and standards in place to allow proper interaction". Then, along came ObamaCare! Viola, the puzzle was complete.

The maglev train indicates there is a plan for this area that is way beyond taking a few gamblers to Las Vegas...

Consumers will be hit hard in the form of higher prices at the produce market.

Our money WILL flow overseas to markets that HAVE gotten water from THEIR governments!

Does anyone know if we lose water by releasing it for hydroelectric power?

YES!!

It vanishes into thin air as soon as it leaves the penstocks!

I guess I could do Google Earth to point out a few private reservoirs. There aren’t any dams. There is talk about a dam up above Cove Road at some point.

What happens here is that we have a split in the river near Orderville with irrigation ditches going down both sides of the valley. We take our water directly out of the ditch. Some of the farms have their water turned into the pressure sprinkler systems.

A LOT of farmers got FORCED out of their land in Sochi to build the Olympic stuff.

Interesting you should mention that.

Sochi is located in what used to be Circassia before 1-1.5 million of their people were killed by the Imperial Russians in a brutal act of conquest. Millions more Circassians were deported. The eradication was total, the largest act of genocide in the 19th Century. The Circassian (Muslims) have not forgotten. Many died of smallpox.

Sochi is only 800 miles from what used to be an island in the Aral Sea (Uzbekistan), where Biopreparat operated a bio-weapons testing facility under the Soviet Union. Biopreparat developed and manufactured biological weapons in several locations within that region. Yet it is known that not all stocks of smallpox were destroyed or under control while the Soviet Union collapsed.

Virtually no one has immunity anymore, and certainly not against the weaponized smallpox strains Biopreparat developed. The plan to vaccinate US medical personnel fizzled. A pandemic would be a huge opportunity for Obama and the Democrat’s socialized-medicine-police-state power grab. How hard would it be, really, for a few suicide-vectors to penetrate the Olympic Winter Games with which to infect athletes or spectators that would then disperse all over the world before there were symptoms? Even a strip search wouldn’t find a thing. Worse, the virus remains viable for longer periods when temperatures are cold. Motive, means, and opportunity on all fronts, not to mention timing. The 150th anniversary of that genocide is this May (May 21, 1864).

Quarantine, test, and treat-or-release and the world would be safe. Fail to do that and… Has anybody made the antibody test strips they might need? There might be time. I’ve scanned the web by private search engine, hoping that somebody had already raised this flag and found no one talking about it. I certainly don’t possess the means or judgment to know when or if to do so.

Having stumbled upon this information, I didn't know what else to do so I notified Fox News of this a few weeks ago, but I did not get a reply.

The Circassian (Muslims) have not forgotten.

Thus the well-founded worry about terrorism!

I drove up the PCH through Malibu last month. Nothing but plush green grass and sprinklers running for miles and miles. There’s plenty of water....for them.

People will take the issue seriously once they open a faucet and nothing comes out. Until then...
