‘Star Trek’ Actor Promises Trouble for Arizona If Gov. Signs What He Calls ‘Turn Away the Gay’ Bill
The Blaze ^ | February 22, 2014 | Dave Urbanski

Many first became acquainted with George Takei as “Sulu” on the original “Star Trek” TV series, but for a number of years the actor has been an outspoken left-wing, and particularly gay-rights, activist.

On Friday Takei switched his phasers on stun and penned a pointed “Raising Arizona” letter in reaction to the state legislature’s passage of a bill many view as anti-gay.

Calling it the “turn away the gay” bill, Takei promised a ground-shaking degree of trouble, including boycotts, if the measure is signed by Gov. Jan Brewer, The Raw Story noted.

“Your taxi drivers can refuse to carry us. Your hotels can refuse to house us. And your restaurants can refuse to serve us,” stated Takei’s letter, which appears on his blog. “You’re willing to ostracize and marginalize LGBT people to score political points with the extreme right of the Republican Party.”

Proponents of the bill see it as a protection for businesses that don’t want to serve LGBT people on religious grounds, but Takei writes that “no one is fooled. When I was younger, people used ‘God’s Will’ as a reason to keep the races separate, too. Make no mistake, this is the new segregation, yours is a Jim Crow law, and you are about to make yourself ground zero.”

Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed similar legislation in 2013, but The New York Times reported that it’s not clear if she will support the latest bill.

If she does, Takei writes, “make no mistake. We will not come. We will not spend. And we will urge everyone we know–from large corporations to small families on vacation–to boycott. Because you don’t deserve our dollars. Not one red cent.”

Takei noted that after Arizona nixed celebrating the Martin Luther King, Jr.’s holiday in 1989, the NFL moved a scheduled Super Bowl from Arizona to Pasedena, costing the state $500 million. Super Bowl XLIX is slated for the University of Phoenix in Glendale in 2015.

“I don’t think selling something to homosexuals violates ones religion.”

Depends on what you’re selling. Forcing me to sell to any individual violates my freedoms. What power does the Federal Govt have to force me to provide a service to someone else?

“Is it any different than catering or providing services to a Halloween party?”

At the pride parades the gays display a great deal of nudity. They defecate and urinate on each other. They perform actual and simulated sex acts on each other. They celebrate perversion.

And you’d force someone who doesn’t want to participate in those activities to attend and support them? You certainly are not a conservative.

Did you consider yourself “tiny” between Kindergarten and Fourth Grade? I didn’t, I remember all those days, I bet he does too. He was aware as all get-out, and you would be too.

FDR hurt him, and his family.

Gays weren’t happy living in a society that left them alone THEY wanted approval as well. THAT is necessarily an attack on Religion. They’ll reap what they sow.

EXACTLY. Most of us were perfectly content with live and let live. "So Joe Smith is gay - who cares?" But now they want ENDORSEMENT. Step too far.

If she does, Takei writes, “make no mistake. We will not come. We will not spend..."

Not having queers lip-locking in front of our families?
Not having their crude participation in parades?
Not forcing the celebration of their deviency on normal people?

Cheap at twice the price!

twisted logic....
....trying to have it both ways....

*********

If the dress restrictions are legally enforceable at all....
...BY THE BUSINESS OWNER & STAFF...

Then OWNER (ALREADY) has the freedom to "discriminate" (be selective of clientele)--
.. To accept offers of business & purchase as OWNER sees fit.

No one can sue him....
or--
Sic the Gestapo govt regulators on him for exercising his own conscience in private business decisions.

**********

The current "push" to force biz owners to surrender these liberties, comports with a thinly-veiled militant anti-freedom agenda...

IOW--
The gay militants /same-sex marriage crowd want to enforce their will on business owners under the color of law--regardless of the owners conscience.

Sorry to disagree....
.....but that is NOT the American way.

It's the fascist way...

After the Washington State lawsuits/regulatory "wedding" enforcement...against florists & bakeries...

Arizona, Ohio, Tennessee, et als....
Are quirte right to listen to their constituents---
Passing shielding legislation

Actually, California Attorney General Earl Warren, FDR only weakly went along with it, so to speak. Funny that Germans and Italians weren’t interred. Although my mothers says that an FBI agent acted as an undercover boarder for awhile in my grandmother’s house in Miami until he revealed himself and said they were clean as a whistle.

I thought Muslims were allowed to refuse passengers in taxis if they have a dog or have been drinking alcohol.

Yes. And as much as I admire many of his actions, he had a funny way of flaunting the constitution when he wanted to. I’m sure my grandmother wasn’t the only first generation German or Italian who was surveilled by the US government during that period.
