Senate Democrats introduced legislation on Wednesday that would ban marketing electronic cigarettes to teens.

Despite their admission that the health implications of electronic cigarettes “are not yet clear,” Senators Barbara Boxer (D., Calif.), Dick Durbin (D., Ill.), Tom Harkin (D., Iowa), Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.), and Edward Markey (D., Mass.) introduced the bill to “protect children” from the smoking simulators.

I am a newly elected member of a school board and this was brought up last month.

I preluded my remarks with the fact that I am an ex smoker and have NO good things to say about smoking and I asked, "What is the impetus for you're trying to make this a legal, school issue?"

The answer was essentially, "Well, we think it looks bad and sends a bad signal to students)

(BTW .. I am a board member to two grammar, one middle and one high school)

I said I thought it was stupid and a violation of freedom to ban something because it looked bad.

I was told 'we' haven't decided yet ... (but I think I can see it will become part of the student handbook next year)

The reason democrats want to ban E-Cig comes down to one and only one reason, they are miffed that people have found a way to “flip the bird” at all their hard fought nanny-state tobacco bans. I honestly think they would still be trying to ban them if the vapor contained nothing but vitamins and was found by science to be healthy. They just don’t want people to be able to blow a smokelike vapor out of anything that resembles a cigarette.

Hey dim-bulb-crats...I’d rather see a bill to protect my children from your abysmal public schools and even your more abysmal low-IQ president and liberal congress.

They are not taxed, that’s the problem. The only problem.

Another problem is, instead of putting in the nicotine juice, some enterprising souls are putting cannabis extract in their e-cigs, but the feds are not addressing that in this bill.

Parents divorcing, cheating on spouses, drugs

Why not hold parents accountable to what looks bad for children as opposed to a simulator.

I agree with the Dems here. There is a place for being a nanny...with children.

Although I believe the e-cigs are great for adults to go tar/carcinogen free, the e-cigs can be used to huff other substances by injection into the filter.

Besides, you can't give children the freedom or "right" to do whatever they want, they will kill their fool selves.

Fascism isn’t about making sense, its about control.

Kind of interesting really. Years ago I read a short Stephen King story (ya I know) called “Ten O’clock people”. The 10 oclock people were people who went outside everyday during their break to smoke because of increasingly oppressive anti smoking laws.

It turned out that the anti smoking laws were a result of an oppressive alien race hiding among us and people who smoked just the right amount could see them so they were trying to wipe out smoking.

I agree. Newt Gingrich said in 1997:

Civilization cannot survive with twelve-year-olds having babies, fifteen-year-olds shooting one another, seventeen-year-olds dying of AIDS, and eighteen-year-olds graduating with diplomas they cannot read.

Nicotine is an addictive drug. Why shouldn't we care about children becoming addicts?

Not if you put them in Public school. You know what you get there. I doubt the private schools will allow e-cigs either. It could be dangerous in the wrong hands.

These pin-headed moron DIMs should introduce a bill protecting children from all LIBs/DIMs. That I’d vote for.
