Now former coach Barry Switzer says he'd 'never recruit a white quarterback'

Just a day after raising eyebrows by calling Johnny Manziel an "arrogant little prick" on a St. Louis radio station, Barry Switzer is back in the headlines, this time for saying he would never recruit a white quarterback.

The former Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach made the comment during an interview on WNSR in Nashville on Thursday as part of a response to a question about whether he would want Manziel in his backfield.

Specifically, the question was, "If you are a coach in the NFL at this point in time — we know your opinion on Johnny and his mental state on and off the field, but we also know how much you think of him as a football player — is this a guy, in Johnny Manziel, that you would draft or you would want your team to draft, and would you have him as your starting quarterback on your roster?"

Mildren was a little before my time. I was 4 yrs old when he was the Oklahoma QB. But you are right. I went to youtube and watched the Auburn highlights. He was the ultimate Wishbone QB. I’m partial to the Wishbone because I was a Wishbone QB in high school.

Ball is in Johnny’s court, back your arrogance up with TD’s and rushing yards.

I think when all is said and done Andrew Luck will be the best of the bunch for the last 5 years or so.

Barry’s commentary on every football player included the phrase “great quickness and speed.” Heh.

I'm not knocking his college years, just his NFL years.

He’s a pretty solid QB. If Johnny gets on a team with no O-line, he’s a dead man. He’s a little fellow, he’ll get squished.

Yea, and it is said that Aikman was one of those who testified against Switzer to the NCAA. That got Switzer fired and OU penalized by the NCAA.

I think he was talking about the type of offense he ran at Oklahoma, and if that was his intent Barry was mostly correct. Manziel couldn’t run the Tripple Option Wish Bone the same way J.C. Watts, or Jamiel Holloway did.

The USC Trojans don't care about a player's race. If he can do the job, they'll give him the gig. USCs record against Oklahoma during the Switzer years was 4-0-1.
