Seems like more of a Libertarian, than anything....For Hollywood, that’s considered to the right of Attila the Hun.
McConaughey is on a roll and will get parts despite his godly speech. His performance in Dallas Buyers Club is one for the ages. I can’t think of a single performance in the last 50 years to surpass it. Do yourself a big favorite and watch it. I expect you’ll agree.
I don't know if he meant that the way it came out. If he did, then that is a kind of a self-esteem gospel.
However, I am glad he mentioned God.
if you have God, you have a friend. That friend is you.
I hope you’re right - I’m not familiar with the quote.
But it sound kinda new-agey to me...
“I cant think of a single performance in the last 50 years to surpass it”
“Raging Bull” De Niro WAS Jake LaMotta.
yea!! That house full of liberals couldn't figure out if they would be sent to detention if they applauded!!!
I was totally shocked that a film about homosexuality and one about slavery would win; man what will they think of next!!!!sarc/on
I know ...how about a film about Noah getting pissed about over population and global warming!!!
Yeah, McConaughey invited blacklisting. Pretty much committing professional suicide with that lovely speech.
Is there a lower, more self-absorbed, shallow, evil crowd on the planet than “the Academy?”
If you think the movie "Dallas Buyers Club" was about homosexuality then you either didn't actually watch the movie or you didn't understand it.
Dallas Buyers Club was about the corruption in the FDA and the Pharmaceutical Industry. The drugs in question treated AIDS but McConaughey's character was straight (He contacted AIDS through straight sex) and he was the focus of the movie and his battle with the FDA to get drugs to people that actually worked and kept them alive.
Hah, exactly what I noticed!!! Pagan bunch.
I clapped when he thanked God and I am sure I was not the only one. Congratulations Matt!
Ask Mel Gibson or Jim Caviezel. Passion of the Christ all but ended their careers as a big time actor. DOn’t be fooled when people say Gibson’s “anti-Jew) tirade did it for him, they were looking for a reason to ruin him. And Caviezel playing Jesus did it for him.
He's only the star of one of the highest-rated shows on TV, "Person of Interest".
You noticed that too? Gay or race, race or gay. I have a feeling there were quite a few low budget indies that were better but didn’t have the advertising or the correct politics.
Great show, Person of Interest. But I am specifically speaking of film roles.
I heard him interviewed about Person of Interest and he said the show caused him to get rid of his cell phone and computer.
In the same interview he said the roles came harder for him after he made Passion of the Christ.
Well let’s be realistic. If Hollywood applauds the acknowledgment or thanks to God, what does that make them?
If he isn’t nominated for an Emmy, for his role in True Detective, the only explaination would be blowback from his Oscar speech.
He will win.
His character, Russ, Rust, Rustin, Cole, Cohle whatever is the most antithetical to Religion that I have seen.
Absolutely fascinating concepts, that are explored by (his character/writer). While I have no illusions about the series effort to portray Christians as evil, his character at least seems honest.
I don’t agree, but there are many that do.

This is where our battle is being fought.
Thanks for clarifying that. I was confused when he said it. But your explanation makes great sense and also resonates with my personal experience.
