ThinkProgress writer Igor Volsky seems genuinely excited that fewer than 15 out of 92 federal anti-poverty programs are somewhat effective. The results came out of a report commissioned by Representative Paul Ryan to evaluate the effectiveness of government programs put in place to combat the problem. The War on Poverty, 50 Years Later evaluates the at least 92 federal programs the government has created and finds that, Despite trillions of dollars in spending, poverty is widespread.

But hundreds of thousands are employed pushing redundant paper.
If you look at the latest 80 Billion in food stamps. 70 Billion is allocated to overhead and only Billion in actual cash aid.
To be simple, it costs us 70 Billion to give out 10 Billion.
The 70 billion is overhead, retirement, salary benefits to government employees and again, only 10 Billion in actual aid.
This burden, paying 20 retirement salaries to every one actually working government hack is an unfair burden on the American people.
To a liberal, all that matters are good intentions. If we tried to feed the hungry by randomly tossing bananas out of airplanes, the fact that millions would be wasted would be overshadowed by the fact that a few dozen people managed to find a banana before it rotted.
So it’s not so much an anti-poverty program as a government bureaucrat employment program/slush fund.
That’s true for all gov’t programs. The public employee unions are the biggest advocates for social programs, not because they care about the people, but because they need more dues paying members with high wages and benefits.
I wrote a letter to a Dr. in CA one time after I read a story about how he lost money taking care of Medicaid patients. I worked with a public employee union at the time. I told the Dr. that the uneducated public employees that shuffle papers and determine eligibility for people fight for keeping higher wages and secure retirements for themselves and do not believe that the professionals that actually provide the service deserve anything.
They are all effective. Effective at turning self-sufficient people into wards of the state who only know how to vote Democrat and scream for more government checks.
There is a chart on this http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3128953/posts thread that is an important part of this the discussion.
It’s one page down from the top, and is titled POVERTY IN THE UNITED STATES. It’s pretty much self explanatory, and shows how The Great Society stopped the decrease in poverty trend.
If I knew how to post it separately I would have done so.
Any socialist policy or program has as it's primary beneficiary as the socialist politicians and as secondary, the bureaucracies that support them. The food stamp recipient is tertiary.
I'm pretty sure that's racist... (hehehehe)
I'm pretty sure that's racist... (hehehehe)
Because the intent of these programs is to ensure an eternally DEPENDENT CLASS OF VOTERS!!!
The entitlement army.
Far larger and more effective than the US Army.
(at least effective for electing Democrats)

Yes and like many who are NOT even really liberal they cannot separate what is desirable from what is possible nor can they distinguish what would happen if you suddenly stopped a program like medicare for instance from what might have been had it never existed which is another matter entirely. They think government giveaway programs exist because people were not able to live without them when the truth is more like they can’t live without them NOW because they have never had to try to live wihout them. The descendants of people who could get by with a knife and a stick in the wilderness don’t know how to live without government assistance. Descendants of those who earned their own keep from the age of six or so can’t make their own way in the world at 39 and it is because they have never had to make their own way. Their only advice for the future is to do MORE of what has failed so miserably in the past. They will even tell you that you are stupid for thinking it has failed in the past. They can stand waist deep in mud and call you a fool for not recognizing that we need another foot of rain.
LOL! There’s a lot of stuff I’d like to post but I guess I’m too old/lazy to figure it out.
Excellent comments!
It’s not that I don’t believe you, because I am certainly inclined to believe you, but do you have any cite for the 7 out of 8 dollars of food stamps goes to administration?
Several of the congress critters voting for it mentioned it.
Years ago (1995) when I ran for office I was given a report that compared private vs government cost to pay a 1.00 invoice.
Private industry spent 12 cents to write a dollar check. Government cost 30,000 to write the same dollar check. I have been looking for the report and will post it someday when I get to the storage shed and find it.
Thanks, brother.
