Mine was 1430 (1973) Does that count for something?...

An excellent score. That was back when the SAT was real.

Did you study/prep for it at all, like they've been doing for quite a few years? I'm guessing not. It didn't become fashionable until we were out of hi skool.

Were they released, the unsupported theory that he is a ‘genius’ or ‘exceptionally intelligent’ would be dispelled.

None of valedictorian or salutatorian pals would have ever advanced the theory that a Navy "corpseman" could speak "Austrian".

I'm just sayin'. MomJeans Obama is a dim bulb.

When English is your second language, regardless of how well and articulately you can speak it when ‘reading’ [as in TelepromptR] the nuances of many words are missed. Couple that with a sham education and you have Obama.

Well, that invalidates the test.

You can apply many adjectives to Billy Jeff, but stupid (at least in the sense of low IQ — plus, we're measuring the big head here) is not among them.

Some people don't test well, or don't care. I don't think it invalidates it at all.

I don’t remember mine either. Once I received my score and it got me into college I totally forgot about it. Maybe because I dropped out and went to work full time and didn’t go back til I was 29. By then I was married, had a baby, was working full time and going to school full time. My SAT score was the least of my worries. Lol

I remember when Tom Clancy was on Jeopardy and pretty much ran the board, with over $25 grand in the bank going into Final.

Then he blows just about all of it by saying that before the Eagle the USPS logo was a Greyhound. Rather than a Pony Express Rider. And Clancy’s dad was a mailman!

I can’t remember who he was up against, but apart from that last choke he made them look like idiots.

He could have blown the test off, knowing that he was connected and it didn’t matter.

He’s definitely not a stupid man. I’d say wickedly cunning would be a more apt description though.

I should’ve prefaced my comments with to say that intelligence based on standardized tests is not an objective measure.

Then there are NO objective measures of intelligence. Nice deconstructionism.

They're measuring something, and the something is not just a random "whoops, I scored well by accident". For multiple choice, there is a chance of scoring well by accident, but taking more than one intelligence test would burst that particular bubble.

Doing poorly on an SAT or IQ test does not necessarily mean a person is not intelligent.

However, doing really well is an extremely good indicator that he is intelligent.

IQ tests have wildly varying formats. Took two in order once to quality for Mensa. Score differed by 36 points.

IIRC, they gave him a mulligan so he could be in Final Jeopardy and he still tanked.

What an IQ test actually measures, of course, is how good a person is at taking that particular test.

Different tests vary significantly in how these results correlate to actual intelligence.

I’ve always thought the, “No way to measure intelligence” crowd to be kind of amusing.

Very few people will deny that there is something we call intelligence, and that some people have more of it than others.

As with just about every other human characteristic, we can therefore expect it to be distributed on a normal bell curve.

I took a class in testing while at the University of West Florida. A few things surprised me.

One was that true/false tests are very reliable, and multiple choice are also among the best.

This was back in the 60s but at that time IQ tests were among the most reliable of all. In other words if you took another one with different questions you likely would score a very similar score.

To be fair, the situation I mentioned was kind of unusual.

Test 1 was a more or less “standard” IQ test. Scored 132.

Test 2 had the person administering the test read me a long essay on an obscure subject, then answer multiple choice questions on the topic. The topic in this case was ancient Greek religious practice, cult and priests, as opposed to mythology. Scored 169.

Problem (for accuracy of second test) was I’d read a long work on the subject just a couple of weeks before. Wasn’t particularly obscure to me. :)

I remember Wolf being on Jeopardy too. It had to have been embarrassing as all get out. I can’t recall his exact score but it was way in the negative.

J Archive record of Blitzer's game

He had -$4,600 after the second round, but since it was a celebrity match they gave him some money for the final round rather than sending him back to the dressing room early like they should have.
