Pew poll: 61% of Republicans under age 30 support legalizing gay marriage

In case you were wondering why CPAC was so light on traditional-marriage rhetoric from the podium, here’s why. An event populated mainly by young conservatives and libertarians isn’t a good venue for that anymore.

You’ll hear more of it, I’m sure, at the convention two years from now. But at the rate we’re going, probably not too much more. Where will the 30-49 group be in 2016?

ssm

The most striking numbers there, actually, are how small the differences are between various Democratic age groups. It’s an astounding consensus to have 18-year-old and 65-year-old Dems both above 60 percent support and within 15 points of each other on a practice that was barely on the cultural radar 20 years ago. Makes me wonder how many senior-citizen votes the GOP picked up over the last decade as the 65+ demographic sorted itself out. And how many younger votes it lost.

Pew’s not the only pollster lately showing majority support for gay marriage among young GOPers, either. A few weeks ago, the NYT/CBS poll found 56 percent of Republicans under the age of 45 in favor of legalized SSM. (Just 29 percent of Republicans age 45 or older agreed.) That’s a rare case of sharp disagreement on an issue among different conservative age demographics. The same poll found the two groups within five points of each other on guns, abortion, the minimum wage, and ObamaCare, The only other prominent outlier was — ta da — marijuana legalization, where 43 percent of younger Republicans support legalization versus only 28 percent of older ones.

Exit question: Given Republican sensitivity to changing demographics and the fact that millennials might be more gettable next time than last, is there a single major 2016 candidate who’s likely to spend much time on gay marriage on the stump? The only one I can think of is Huckabee, who may calculate that his only path to victory is consolidating social conservatives. Everyone else, including social cons like Cruz and Rubio, will probably take a federalist approach to traditional marriage.

Thank you for referencing that article SeekAndFind. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at pollsters and not at you.

As a side note concerning the integrity of poll results, we need to know the exact questions that people were asked and how the questions were asked. This is because we need to know if conclusions drawn by a poll reflect reasonable answers to the questions as opposed to bait-and-switch tactics possibly being used by biased pollsters.

We need to know how questions were asked for the following reason. I dimly remember that telephone robots were calling people to ask if they supported Romney or Obama for president for example. An answering machine indicated that silence was regarded as support for Obama.

Robopoll records silence as support for Obama.

At this point, I can only assume that this an issue over which I have no control...other than not watching TV shows that promote the gay agenda (like Modern Family, Brooklyn 999 and Restaurant Impossible)

Let us just base moral standards on popular opinion.

This conservative libertarian does not support the juvenile Libertarian Party platform. I agree with your objections to the clause you quoted.

But the I question I raised in post #5 is something the juveniles should understand.

Oh, my, god. What has happened to this once great country? Pray, pray, pray for redemption. We must turn around or we are doomed to perdition.

This is more about creating the new minority class to fight against the evils
of White Males and capitalism. In socialism the Gays and the media types will be
killed off first because they will be a threat to the Socialist power house.
Because, once the useful idiots learn what they've been hornswoggled into,
they'll revolt against their masters. It's called history, lurkers, learn it!

All my kids and kids in law, who are all under the age of 40, have no problem with homosexual marriage. And they are all conservatives. I’m not sure how they feel about the legalization of weed.

Poll results are employed in accordance with the unspoken motives that triggered the exercise in the first place:

Namely, to confer moral authority for their usage as a legitimate tool of cultural intimidation against those whom the results have shown to be one’s adversaries.

I think a direct line of causation can be drawn between this poll and why Rand Paul did so well in the CPAC Poll.

For decades it has been an easy proposition to have civil unions of same sex degenerates legalized. But that doesn’t accomplish what the devil driving these vermin wants for society. No less than the degenerating of all wholesome institutions of society is the goal of these vermin and their enablers, mostly the democrips and republicants.

I liked Bob Hope’s response when homosexuality was being accepted in Hollywood, “ I’m leaving when they make it compulsory”. He of course left too soon for that...by a few years.

I don’t believe 18-29 year-olds have enough life experience to answer the question. I know I was much more liberal about things in general, than I am now.
