Here’s my theory, based on my information that the aircraft is the long range variant 777 with extended range of ~7200 miles.

I have seen no reports that indicated that the aircraft held enough fuel to fly that far. Have you heard otherwise?

much less load if no passengers and cargo, carrying only a bomb, therefore longer range.

Singapore Airlines Airbus makes it from Newark to Singapore because its business class only, 100 passengers/luggage +crew.
