My understanding is Russia’s issuing new license plates and banks are exchanging monies.... So “commerce” etc. can continue without too many bumps in the road.

On the Ukranian side.... They just announced ‘social services’ will be cut in order to pay for defense measures....not so sure the people will understand the trade off even though they’re been assured these will return once the borders and nation is secured.

Thanks for your post...Russia did say something about it taking a year for full transferance to the Nation....no doubt legalities come to play.

BTW I didn’t know that Putin went to law school....

Looks like Ukranian Gov. and Crimea have indeed worked things out....

Those at the base did not want to leave without securing their rifles so that citizens wouldn’t have access to them...apparently with Black Sea Admiral, arranged their departure.

Meanwhile:

Vice Prime Minister Vitaly Yarema and Defense Minister Igor Tenyukh immediately left for Crimea to prevent conflict and arrange transition to the military stage of departures....they will be joined later with other Ukraine officials, who are forming a working committee, to prevent further conflicts in Crimea.

The problem developed as yesterday, the Ministry of Defence had allowed the Ukrainian military to use weapons in the Crimea.

They don’t need Nato...let them work it out.

I can’t believe the press’ is calling them ‘activists’ and still trying to get away with not admitting they’re Russian FSB in plain clothes.

“Guess it (the justification for firing on Ft Sumter) ultimately depends on whether you think their (the South’s) secession was legal or not.”

Wasn’t the South’s secession as “legal” as the separation from England in 1776?

When it comes to secession, questions of what’s legal are moot. Ask what the meaning of freedom is: do free people have the right to decide for themselves whether to remain governed by a tyranny?

So, UNARMED Crimean soldiers “STORM” armed Ukrainian soldiers and take over base without a shot fired.

Ukrainian soldiers being given choice of joining with Crimea or going back to the Ukraine.

‘bets on how many will chose to stay with Crimea?

“do free people have the right to decide for themselves whether to remain governed by a tyranny?”

Who is the south in this analogy, Crimea, Ukraine, Russia?

“Wasn’t the South’s secession as “legal” as the separation from England in 1776?”

No, by no stretch of the imagination can they be compared as equivalent. King George was denying the colonists and their lawful colonial goverments the Rights of Englishmen guaranteed by the colonial Charters granted by the previous monarchs and other English authorities going back to the magna Carta. The vote for independence was accomplished by legislative organizations previously authorized by sovereign authority.

The secession of the Confederacy was accomplished in direct violation of the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation, and the plebiscites were fraudulent in their lack of authority in the first place and in their conclusion following vote fraud. When the vote defeated secession, the secessioneist leaders kept staging additional votes with changed rules until the vote fraud reached the preconceived result for secession they were trying to falsely claim.

When it comes to secession, questions of what’s legal are moot. Ask what the meaning of freedom is: do free people have the right to decide for themselves whether to remain governed by a tyranny?
