When Darryl Howard was convicted of murder in 1995, he cried out ”I didn’t do it!” then sobbed in open court. He has maintained his innocence ever since.

But for all his problems, there has never been much compelling evidence that Howard is a murderer. Howard was convicted of killing a woman named Doris Washington and her 13-year-old daughter Nishonda in November 1991. Despite indications that both women had been sexually assaulted, no DNA or biological evidence connected Howard to the crime scene. He was convicted entirely on eyewitness testimony, much of which was vague, contradictory, or later recanted.

But Barry Scheck of the Innocence Project points to the Duke lacrosse case, and what the public would later learn about Nifong. “When you see that kind of misconduct once, it has likely happened before,” Scheck says. “Behavior that egregious is typically the work of a serial offender.”
K.C. Johnson, a history professor at Brooklyn College in New York who co-wrote a book about the Duke lacrosse case, agrees. “I’m absolutely certain that Mike Nifong didn’t just wake up one day during the Duke lacrosse case and decide to start committing misconduct. He must have done it previously.”

Well, you can't argue with that. What more do you need? Let him go.
I’m a big fan of locking up violent criminals forever, or until they are no longer potential threats, but I am just as big a fan of ensuring that we lock up the right people and only the right people. Every convict whose case was touched by Nifong should be carefully reviewed, and I’m okay with releasing or retrying those for whom there is reasonable doubt.
Note: Nifong is still alive and currently free. I find it disappointing that he has not faced criminal charges and prison for his crimes.
Nifong should be in prison for as long as his victims were and still are...................

Texas recently jailed, disbarred, and removed from the bench Ken Anderson, an active judge for his despicable roll in sending Michael Morton to prison for 25 years. Anderson, then a prosecutor, withheld intentionally exculpatory evidence.
Michael Morton is trying to live what’s left of his life. Lawsuits likely will be settled in his favor resulting in him being comfortable.
If you read the article, you will see that the DNA evidence excluded Mr. Howard from being a suspect. It was withheld by Nifong and his gang. They also had tips naming the suspects but ignored them or hid them. This guy was railroaded.......................
I read it (even though it's more fun to comment without reading). Howard should be released and paid generously for the violation of his rights and the loss of a significant portion of his life, and I assume both are almost automatic at this point. It's the rest of Nifong's victims who have to be located by reviewing his cases - that's an issue that won't take care of itself.

Nifong is enjoying in excess of $100,000 a year in pension funds, and his wife gets an excellent salary working for the state.
However, there is no statute of limitations in North Carolina, so charges can still be brought.

The poor guy has already spent nearly a whole day in jail for what he did wrong. How much do you want to punish him? Have you no mercy? Poor Nifong. The haters just won't let him go.
ALL prosecutors have a history.
ESPECIALLY those who have been in “public service” too long.
misconduct and lack of ethics is a way of life for them.
Is there any statutory cap to damages in Texas? There is in many jurisdictions. In some you can’t collect more than $25,000 per year of incarceration, which is ridiculously low considering that you can collect $17 million from 7-UP just for not pointing a bottle away from your face when you spin off the cap.
