What MOS were you? There were some bad female shooters in my units, but not at the level you describe. The worst shooters in my experience were the urban blacks. I was a 73-C20 in my active days, and I can still remember little Ecolango (about 5’1”) qualifying sharpshooter. She was stoked.

One time over in Germany, a black urban artillery NCO tagged along to qualify with us. Apparently he thought that being a combat arms MOS allowed him to talk smack. I shot 40/40 but missed one of the “familiarization” shots with the protective mask on. When I walked back to the assembly area, my CO said “Jones, you missed one so I’m only giving you a half day off.” I replied, “I’ll work on it Sir!” He then had the supply Sergeant give me a ride back to the Kaserne to enjoy the rest of the day.

The Artillery NCO’s jaw dropped to the floor upon witnessing my shooting and conversation with the CO.

BTW, German schutzenschnur in Gold and USAF Distinguished Rifleman. Never judge a book by it’s cover.

I started out as 11C, Indirect fire crewman, or in layman's terms, 4.2 and 81mm mortars. When I got to Nam, they handed me an M16 and when I got in the bush, I humped the platoon leader's radio. An extra mass of weight on my back. After I got wounded, I could not hump anymore, so they reclassed me into 71D, Legal Clerk, and later Senior Legal NCO after I made E7.

That is why I was range NCOIC, I hit 40 for 40 and my company commander who was not combat arms, eyed that score and for my last 3 years at Benning, I ran our company ranges. We had MOS's from a bunch of branches. Some combat arms, others admin, etc.

I had a female lawyer who could not hit a barn with a shotgun. We had her on the range all day and she could not qualify. My commander looked at me and said, "Sarge, I don't care what you do, get her qualified. She has failed every range she has ever been on." So, I put her in the fox hole and I got my M16 and went down a couple more and got in myself. When she fired, I fired as quickly after her as she fired. I hit all the close ones enough to get her to 24 I think it was to qualify and quit. She did not hit any others herself. She was so happy. I did not have the heart to say anything. My commander asked me how she qualified. I said, No questions sir, you said to get her qualified and she has. End of subject. He smiled and walked off!!!!! My experience was any female from big cities couldn't shoot a weapon at all. Up close with a pistol they might be okay.

My wife had never shot a day in her life when we got married. I taught her to shoot an AR15. I kept her at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards. She shoot very good. Better than those did. We shoot all the time. She has her own Beretta Topcat and keeps it in her purse.
