A bolt of lightning blasted a hole through the roof of a church as a fierce squall blew through a Green Lake neighborhood Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the scene, Bethany Community Church in the 1100 block of North 80th Street, at about 4:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a building had been struck by lightning.
Crews at the scene found a 2-foot-by-4-foot hole in the church's roof, directly above the altar. The force of the strike blew the tiles off the roof at the impact site and knocked out electrical power to the church.
A Seattle Fire Department spokesperson said people were in the church when the lightning struck, but none of them were injured.
The lightning did not appear to spark a fire, but crews are checking the building with thermal imaging equipment to make certain there are no hidden hot spots.
You've got to realize this is Seattle and the definition of liberal has to be somewhat relative. It is not a liberal church compared to 90% of its neighbors (both churches and people).
In more absolute terms, almost all churches in Seattle are liberal from my perspective. For example, there are only three traditional Catholic parishes in the greater Seattle area (two diocese and one independent). Possibly an eastern Catholic or two as well. The others are liberal modernist parishes.
Thanks for your explanation! It is easy to see why Democrats get elected in the state of Washington.
Over here on the eastern side of the state we are very conservative.
And a booming voice from the sky said “I missed!”
God says: “I smite you”, just kidding that’s not (usually) what He does.
God has a lightning assistant I think. Hard to get good help anymore.
That’s good to hear! Hope your message goes west!
