5 Reasons Obama's 7.1 Million Number Is Meaningless
Big Government ^ | 4/2/2014 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 04/02/2014 2:09:52 AM PDT by markomalley

On Tuesday, President Obama triumphantly announced that, with the power of the mainstream media, Hollywood, and the threat of the IRS, the mission had been accomplished: 7.1 million Americans had selected an Obamacare plan.

Obama’s tone was nothing short of exuberant: “7.1 million Americans have now signed up for private insurance plans through these market places. 7.1! Yep!” He then went on to criticize those who had expressed objections to Obamacare for its deprivations of plans, doctors, drugs, and liberty: “Why are folks working so hard for people not to have health insurance?”

Now, it was always foolhardy for Republicans and conservatives to stake their objections to Obamacare on the number of sign-ups; Social Security is going bankrupt despite 100% enrollment. The reality is that Obama was always destined to hit his required numbers because, after all, he has the power of government to compel action. The real problem with Obamacare has little to do with the number of people signing up, and a lot to do with the restrictions on insurance companies and reimbursement rates to doctors.

Nonetheless, the 7.1 million statistic is a meaningless one. It’s meaningless for a variety of reasons:

It Doesn’t Measure How Many People Have Actually Paid. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius admitted yesterday that of the 6 million people who had signed up for Obamacare at the time, “What we know from insurance companies…tell us that, for their initial customers, it’s somewhere between 80, 85, some say as high as 90 percent, have paid so far.”

Then print and source the list if it's real...otherwise take you lies and STFU

I sit here, a former responsibly individually insured person. March 31 has come and gone, and I have joined the uninsured because of a now unaffordable insurance rate and deductible. To top it, I don’t qualify for subsidy (which I despise, anyway).

There must be millions of other Americans like me. We have now joined the other “30 millions uninsured” obama used as a reason for HIS wonderful law.

obama can pretend for the cameras that we don’t exist, but we do, and he knows it. He is The Destroyer.

From Wikipedia:
“Kevin Mark Trudeau (born February 6, 1963) is a convicted American fraud artist, author, radio personality, infomercial host, and salesman who promotes various unsubstantiated health, diet and financial “remedies”. Several of his books, including Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You to Know About, allege that both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the pharmaceutical industry value profit over treatments or cures.

Trudeau’s activities have been the subject of both criminal and civil action. He was convicted of larceny and credit card fraud in the early 1990s, and in 1998 he was sued by U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for making false or misleading claims in infomercials promoting his book.”

A guy writes a diet book and is convicted of fraud but the Libs lie repeatedly in order to rewrite healthcare and it’s hailed as a “a big F’ing deal.”

The main reason it’s meaningless is because it’s meaningless. It’s a random number pulled out of the cosmos.

Simple answer, the fundamental transformation in this situation is this: those with insurance before 2009 no longer have it because it was made too expensive and invasive. Meanwhile, they have been replaced on the insurance rolls by those who did not have it before because they are being subsidized to buy it. Kind of a shell game.

BTW, this is a win win for the insurance companies. If they lose money, virtually impossible under the rules, the government bails them out. Meanwhile, the taxpayers pay more taxes (or more debt) plus those who had insurance before either don’t have it now or pay more for what they did have with about 50% of the benefits of having it.

Welcome to Obamaland where up is down, down is up and social justice rules.

You said it more politely than I did at #14.

Ok. So if 7.1 million people decide to jump off of a bridge, does that mean you should too?

You said it all, in two concise paragraphs.

I am surprised that half of the advertisers on talk radio aren’t in prison.

I disagree. The number claimed is likely at least half and probably 6/10 people that had insurance and lost it. The other fraction might be those that had no insurance before.

Once they understand that they have no insurance because the premium and deductable combined effectively mean there is no insurance, they will drop it. They are getting nothing for theri money. The question should not be have they paid the premium but if they paid the second and third pemiums
