2010: Admiral: President Obama Gave Us Choice to Accept Gays in Military or Resign
Breitbart's Big Peace ^ | April 1, 2014 | AWR Hawkins

Posted on 04/03/2014 12:20:40 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Robert Papp said that in 2010 Obama told U.S. military leaders to accept his push for gays in the military, and that if they didn't, they could take the "opportunity to resign [their] commissions."

Papp said these things in a video BuzzFeed obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The video shows a speech Papp delivered to Coast Guard Academy cadets during which he was asked how he would deal with enforcing an order with which he didn't agree. He used the story of his 2010 meeting with Obama as an example of how service members' duties can be compelling and conflicting with personal desires....

You asked “what then” and I postulated an honest opinion.

It didn’t fit your universe so you reply with an argumentative profanity (”BS”) and then go on to offer your own feelings which, using your standard, can qualify as “BS.”

I think a mass resignation of the JCS would raise the level of awareness whereas you feel it would not.

I think it would be an event noticed whereas you feel it would not.

Given your tag (”future snake eater”) I think you would have a fighting spirit, a never give up attitude, a fight for principle and integrity approach to life, because a snake eater is built that way. Apparently that is not the case.

You expressed yourself, I said my piece. Further exchange would be pointless so no need to reply. We will let thinking people decide.

(I have a bet with my close neighbor that you will give in to your juvenile nature and reply because. . .well, you have to have the last word, take the last shot. . it is simply your way.)

We totally disagree on the impact of such an action. I don’t think they’d care in the slightest, and I think the press would demonize the resigning officers as being “hatemongers” for months to come. By the time the press was done, average Americans would think GEN Odierno was the angriest, most hateful man who ever put on a uniform. GEN Obamalackey would be his new replacement, and things would get real interesting.

Oh. . .one last thing. . .

“. I’m also not OK with torpedoing my career over a pointless gesture that would have no effect.”

Tell that to Gen Ronald Fogleman.

He resigned early rather than give in to PC pressures from Clinton.

Wouldn't do what Clinton wanted, he resigned, the world went on basically unaffected but Fogleman kept his integrity and honor, and men respect him for that.

Thank you for revealing the future for those of us who are discerning.

All I require from you from now on is to keep those weapons, weapons systems & ammunition stocks well-maintained.

Well then I guess we disagree. The people running the administration are incompetent non entities and would fold like the proverbial cards. Weakness only encourages them.

I’m sure it still happens. They still have training accidents.

Disagree. I think that gay people would actually admire conservatives for sticking to their principles rather than be hypocrites about something.

The issue should have been defined as standing up in defense of a societal/cultural pillar, marriage, than trying to discriminate against someone.

Civic unions are literally the same as marriage though on a civil level. Marriage is very often a religious issue in and of itself. It can exist outside of the civil marriage authority of the state.

Complicated but there doesn’t have to be anything discriminatory about our position. We should be tolerant of others and expect that it would be reciprocated.

A telling point here is that this was quiet for so long. Everyone is protecting their coveted job, even if it means going RED.

It was not kept quiet. There is only so much the active duty personnel can do from inside. This was highly compartmentalized. Everyone thought the survey would have sealed the deal and kept them out. They cheated on the survey. They sent it mostly to Reserve and Guard units and also spouses of active duty. Not everyone received a survey.

There is plenty of evidence. The military cannot fix the sexual assault problems. At every commanders call they are begging everyone for answers. The USAF started a blog and that failed because no one was making comments except for one or two individuals. They are spending tons of money making these stupid ass pamphlets and brochures and leaving them everywhere. No one reads them because they are totally useless.

Just talk to anyone in uniform and they will provide lots of evidence. Civilians caused this and they have to fix it not the military.

I would have looked right at him and said, “Sir, I will not resign and I will do everything possible to defy you. Go ahead, fire me if you can, but I will go down fighting if you push your destructive agenda.”

I heard a bunch of high rankers were put to pasture. For myself, not in the system, I didn’t hear a word about this ‘either-or’ choice until today. The ones who retired just quietly went away, it seems.

Why was this almost completely invisible when I was in?

It was all over the internet except it was ignored. The JCS was always opposed to the fag agenda. I think it’s better for them to stay in and sabotage the homos from inside. We are in trouble if the faggots get up that high. They will promote their butt buddies.

They asked twice about letting homos in and it was a unanimous “Hell NO”, They then pulled the fast one by only asking certain people that they know would either say it is OK, (Guard and Reserves who are part timers) or are totally clueless about life in uniform like the civilian spouses.

They claim that they did not have money to do a 100% contact which is BS as they do 100% contact for all the other silly unimportant surveys they send out almost monthly. The shooters in the filed did not get the survey because they don’t have access to computers like the garrison troops.

You had to be invited to take the survey. If you went to the site and tried to take it it would not allow you.

They needed to ask the GIs and their parents. I’m sure they would have gotten another “HELL F&^%$#@ NO” The survey should have been two questions.

Q. Do you want to know if someone is a homosexual?
Q. Do you want your child to room with a known homosexual?

I think it was accept or get fired with no pension. They would have made an example of the first person to resign. That would have served notice to the rest to toe the line.

My comments were indeed directed at flag level, but in reality, the Capt’s and even butterbars are supposed to be leaders of the enlisted, ready to step up and take charge whenever need arises. Well, need arose and they are failing them every bit as much as this Admiral.

Integrity knows no rank. Good and evil have no expiration date. Washington or Patton must be rolling in their graves. I am sure that these are mostly otherwise outstanding officers. But they failed in their duty here. Bad.
