N.C. State Board Finds More than 35K Incidents of ‘Double Voting’ in 2012
National Review Online ^ | April 2, 2014 | Andrew Johnson

Posted on 04/03/2014 11:59:02 AM PDT by neverdem

North Carolina’s Board of Elections found that tens of thousands of registered voters from the state have personal information matching that of registered voters in other states, and appear to have voted in states other than North Carolina in 2012. In some cases, votes were cast under names of individuals who had passed away before Election Day.

The review searched databases in 27 other states and 101 million voter records for information such as matching names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.

The review found that 35,570 North Carolina voters from 2012 shared the same first names, last names, and dates of birth with individuals who voted in other states. Another 765 Tar Heel State residents who voted in 2012 had the the same names, birthdays, and final four digits of a Social Security number as voters elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the election board’s executive director, Kim Westbrook Strach, told lawmakers that 81 deceased North Carolinians apparently voted in 2012 as well. While some appear to have submitted absentee ballots prior to their death, she said “there are between 40 and 50 who had died at a time that that’s not possible.”

Strach offered a series of proposals for the state to consider to better secure its voting practices and reduce fraud, including on-site digital face-recognition or electronic-signature technology.

Granted, a voter I.D. law won’t prevent the multi-state voting fraud, but it would definitely cut down on the dead voters.

Well, we’ll know whom they voted for by who is going to resist measures to prevent this in the future.

The commie DemocRATS would say that this voter fraud isn’t “widespread” and that Americans are “overreacting” when they demand only one vote per person. The commie ‘RATS like votes. It doesn’t really matter who casts them as long as there are a bunch of them for their ‘RAT toads to count. Any time you can get 120% of the population to the polls, that’s something for all of us to be very proud of! Frickin banana republic!

DemoRats can vote as many times as they want in as many precincts as they want.

It's the law, Just Us Dept. says so.

I made a long post to another thread on this story, but the short version is this:

You could stop double voting simply by setting up access to a database composed of basic Social Security information (which includes current addresses) and then logging each vote, by SSN, into that database (just the fact that they voted, not the actual choices made).

If someone attempts to vote in a precinct they don’t live in, or if they’ve already voted by absentee ballot, then the poll workers see that they’re ineligible to vote there. If they let them vote anyway, the database shows that they voted in more than one place, or more than once, and the poll worker is called to account at the precinct where the ineligible vote was cast.

At the end of the election day the state downloads the total votes legally cast in each precinct and compares it to the reported totals to prevent ballot stuffing.

The Social Security database already contains the information required to stop most voter fraud: names, current addresses, age, whether deceased, whether a citizen, etc.

“... You could stop double voting simply by ...”
-
By making it a felony with a 10 year minimum prison sentence upon conviction.
Every double vote robs some other voter of their vote.
(easy peasy)

I think this should be used as a great reason to ABOLISH early voting. In NC our early voting is now 12 days long, still too easy for people to vote and then travel to another state and vote again (think college students)

I agree. However, it might be more practical from a political viewpoint to just put in place protections against double voting now, rather than to wait until your draconian solution garners majority support and is enacted. No?

I do agree that fraudulent voting should result in a jail term, incidentally. Even that seem too much to ask presently, however. Maybe once people realize how rampant it appears now to be, that will change, but I’m not holding my breath.

There is nothing draconian about it.
Every double vote or any other type of "cheating" that occurs at the polls
robs someone of their vote and is a violation of their civil rights
just as much as anything else.

The current federal guideline is not more than 1 year in prison:
18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law
Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom,
willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District
to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected
by the Constitution or laws of the United States,
or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien,
or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens,
shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both...

And this is the matching of exact names, addresses, and last 4 digits of SSN who voted in different states. Are these also dead people? And how many non-matches are there as well that are bogus.

Our most precious right is being hijacked by lawlessness that threatens us all, and perverts all this country stands for...

I wonder if any of the double voting was for Republican candidates.

I hope some North Carolina residents file a class action lawsuit against them for violating their civil rights.
