Had a spider web jam the crossfeed tank control on a Cessna 172 I flew once. Couldn’t figure out why valve would not move. Mechanic found this huge spiderweb inside the control valve. It happened twice.

If the vapor pressure build-up causes the gas tanks to crack, rather than the spider webs to blow out....it seems the problem is weak, cheap gas tanks!

A web can crack a fuel tank?

The Death Star had a similar design flaw

They say that spiderweb material is nearly as strong as kevlar (by weight).

At least your Cessna did not get caught IN a giant spider web.

Always a good idea to check any firearms stored for a while before firing.
To: smokingfrog
I had a spider take up residence in a handlebar switch housing on a motorcycle I used to own. The headlight kept going off intermittently until I cleaned the dried-one smooshed spider from the contacts.
To: SkyDancer
My flight instructor years ago always made cycling the cross valve part of the pre-flight on the 172. Now I know why.

dried-one = dried-ON
Sheesh.

Thing was, the valve lever moved okay but the avgas somehow hardened the spider web into some sort of plastic mass and wouldn’t flow properly.

Looks like they walked away and it wasn’t really even a crash.
