In a new radio ad, Republican Senate candidate Karen Handel of Georgia hits back at her primary opponent David Perdue for his recently released comments about her lack of a college education. Perdue also touted his international business experience. The minute-long Handel ad replays Perdue's comments.
"When I heard David's comments, I thought, bless his heart," Handel says in a voiceover. "He's been overseas too long and lost touch with our values. Hard work and making the most of life: that's what makes Georgians great." Listen to the ad below:
Handel, who left a "troubled home" at age 17, cites her experience as the state's first elected Republican secretary of state, where she says she implemented photo identification requirements for voting and reduced her budget. "And I did all of this as a high school graduate," she adds in the spot.
"I approve this message because we need less elitism in Washington and more Georgia common sense," Handel concludes.
Perdue has led the five-way GOP primary for the Senate seat held by retiring Republican Saxby Chambliss, while Handel has struggled in a tied third place with a small campaign budget. But in recent weeks, Handel's fundraising numbers have ticked up following an endorsement and public appearance from Sarah Palin.
Joining Perdue and Handel in the GOP primary is Jack Kingston, the Savannah-based congressman who on Thursday reported a hefty $1.1 million fundraising haul for the first quarter of 2014. Kingston has polled around second place, while his fellow House colleagues Paul Broun and Phil Gingrey have been statistically tied with Handel in third place.
The winner of the May 20 primary will likely face the presumptive Democratic nominee, Michelle Nunn.

Sarah Palin is behind Handel and I think I’ll go with Sarah on this one.
Handel tried to stop Planned Parenthood funding when she was with the Susan G. Komen foundation angering folks like Michael Bloomberg who came out and said he would personally replace any lost money.
I had no idea, until a home grown Georgia buddy told me about implied meaning. One time, I was driving through SC and I made a detour to see sights in Charleston. I was at a ihop and this lady/waitress asked me where I was driving thru from. I said NJ to Georgia. She went on to loudly say, “well, bless your heart for coming all the way down here, that’s is just great. Bless your heart, bless your heart.” I thought everyone was just being nice and hospital. Especially when I left the ihop, several people said bless your heart for stopping thru.
I was so impressed by the friendliness, it made a great memory. I told my buddy about it and why I really appreciate being in the south. He laughed, and said, they were telling you f off Yankee.

It was worse, I litteraly waved like friggin tard to all the people and told them how nice they were. Before I left I said something along the lines the last time I was in SC i was a recruit on Paris Island. There was a gentleman there whom said in serious tone, God bless you man. At that moment, the folks, especially the waitress had a look on her face like she did something unhonorable. When my bud told me about the “code”, I think she realized I am just guy passing through, rather than a Yankee. IMHO
All in all, its still fun memory for me, I enjoy my friends and neighbors here in GA.
When a sentence starts with Bless His/Her Heart it is often code for a whole lot of things other than limited mental faculties. Sometimes it has to do with being ugly, dumb, inappropriately attired, lack of manners, food preferences, etc. Real southern women have it down to a fine science and can come up with zingers without giving it a second thought.
Every lady I know down here says it (a lot of men, too). It’s a great saying because it absolves you of anything nasty you may have said before, “bless his/her heart.”
I mean, I’ve basically heard a lady say, “You would think he’s an ‘afflicted’ trailer child with his head stuck up his butt from Back Woods island.... bless his heart.”
I mean - you can LITERALLY say whatever you want so long as you follow it with B.H.H. You’re completely forgiven in polite society!

Went to a luncheon last week - was supposed to be business attire. One of the ladies at our table looked at another lady who came in and said, “Well, bless her heart. You know she’s got to be feeling beside herself. Apparently nobody along the way has ever told that poor thing what is meant when it says business attire.”
Pretty funny. IMO lady was dressed very conservatively and looked fine.
Is this one of the Primaries that will have a run-off if no one gets over 50%?
