Cable channel Al Jazeera America, which launched less than a year ago, is slashing expenses and laying off staff as it struggles to gain a foothold in the US.
The news outfit is letting go of scores of staffers after its Mideast backers spent millions getting the channel off the ground, according to sources close to the company.
“They’re not making their numbers or the revenue they thought,” said a source. “They have a really convoluted background of people in from Qatar [headquarters]. They really don’t get the US market.”
Al Jazeera America is averaging just 15,000 total viewers, roughly half those who tuned in to its predecessor, Current TV, according to Nielsen figures.
The channel draws fewer than 6,000 viewers in the 25-to-54-year-old target audience for news.
Thanks to the deep pockets of the owners, Al Jazeera America spent freely in a bid to challenge its all-news TV competition.

And yet they have purchased rights on practically every basic cable system in the US. You can’t get Fox Business News, or even Oprah Winfrey’s Network, but you get Al Jazeera tucked right in there among other “legitimate” news channels like MSNBC and CNBC and Headline News.
I skip by very quickly when surfing through. I don’t believe I have had it on more than 10 seconds at most.
About the same viewing time I give to MSNBC.
“Free Speech” also means you are free NOT to listen to it.
Notice how they highlight the fact that a lot of these “journalists” are “Emmy Award Winning.”

In the utopia which some liberals dream of, you would be required to watch propaganda channels such as Al Jazeera or MSNBC. That’s their idea of free speech. They don’t believe in the freedom NOT to listen to something. Yet these same people want to censor Fox News, convinced that Fox News lies about Obama and liberals.
I have never watched Al Jazeera. I don’t think my satellite package has that channel.
Oh well. I also don’t get Oprah’s channel.
Well, I think Al Gore made almost as much money off of these guys as he did from Gorbull Warming.

On Direct TV Spanish language package you get english new CNN HLN MSNBC CNBC Jazeera CBS News NBC News ABC NEWS Channels but no FNC
Their miscalculation was actually thinking that people would buy antisemitism and jihad in a free marketplace!
