Kiev deadline for disarming in east Ukraine passes

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — A deadline set by the Ukrainian government for pro-Russian gunmen to leave government buildings in eastern Ukraine and surrender weapons passed early Monday, with no immediate sign of any action to force the insurgents out.

Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov issued a decree Sunday that those protesters who disarm and vacate government offices in several cities in the Russian-leaning east of the country by 0600 GMT Monday will not be prosecuted. Turchynov vowed that a "large-scale anti-terrorist operation" would take place to re-establish control over those areas and that the fate of the Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia last month, will not be repeated.

There was no immediate comment from the government on the deadline passing.

But Serhiy Taruta, governor of the Donetsk region, where government buildings in several cities, including the regional capital Donetsk, have been seized by pro-Russian gunmen, said an anti-terrorist operation was underway in the region, according to the Interfax news agency.

Taruta did not give any details of what the anti-terrorist operation would entail. The governor usually does not have authority to launch anti-terrorist measures on his own and he was likely acting on the orders of top security officials in Kiev.

It seems people are becoming aware of the consequences of not responding to tyranny. Disarm? No, thank you.

Good luck with it. Kiev is not fighting ragtag militia amateurs but highly trained Russian spetnaz troops. They’re going to be impossible to dislodge.

And urban warfare is always messy. Remember Stalingrad? Hitler’s finest army was ground to pieces in street to street fighting. But Ukraine does not have the Wehrmacht and its special units are not up to the Russian level.

Here again, Putin holds all the cards.

Earlier this week, Ukraine’s government finally grasped reality and ordered its troops out of Crimea. But by the time of the evacuation order, Russia’s military had already started booting Ukrainian troops from their bases or getting them to switch sides. VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky met with Ukrainian Marines in Feodosia as they decided whether to remain loyal to their country or break their oath of allegiance to stay with their families in Crimea...

Actually, the jib is up.

The Russian propaganda ploy that these are “protesters and Russian speaking minorities” will fall if Ukraine takes down the Russian agents inside the govt. buildings.

This is why Russia is crying a river at the UN Security Council. These Russian spetznaz are surounded and highly outnumbered and will die if attacked.

Putin gambled they wont attack. Now pressed, he’s begging the UN for help. Ukrainian officials know they have this gamed and Putin is cornered. Now, they are offering amnesty to the Russian agents who are surrounded.

They should kill every one of them and show their identities to expose Putin’s game.

Spetnaz troops operate with denialibility. If its apparent they can’t hold out, they’ll disappear to fight another day.

You don’t seriously think Russia is going to acknowledge them? Putin went to the UN to read out his terms. He’s not cornered; he’s in charge - and he is not the one making concessions.

As far the Kremlin is concerned, the pieces are falling in the right direction. Putin as someone experienced in judo knows all about using an opponent’s strengths and weaknesses against himself. That is exactly what is happening here.

First of all Putin used to be a KGB operative with judo training. Now he is a puzzy Billionaire Boys Club member who would get his azz kicked by the average Freeper.

Secondly...these agents, who may or may not be Spetznaz are cornered like rats inside a building. They’re at the mercy and whim of the Ukrainians.

There only quarter will come with a political deal being cut, which Putin realizes. Thus his moaning like a beeyotch at the UN.

This is the reality, not the slurper version you espouse.

What u been smokin?

The Ukrainians are toast....just waiting for the graves to swallow them up....these are just the facts. Wish everyone would have left Ukraine alone.

Any major move against the guys in the buildings will bring in the Russian army and close air support.

LOL...”we are wrong, but we can bully you”....signed Putin’s Slurpers backstage crew.

Big deal. The point is that the Russian agents in the buildings are dead meat. Meat that which MotherRussia is more than willing to serve up.

But keep on touting the Russian propaganda. Slurpers Unite !
