Bundy ranch dispute with federal land agency draws variety of foot soldiers
Las Vegas Review Journal ^ | April 13, 2014 | By BEN BOTKIN

BUNKERVILLE — Cliven Bundy’s fight with the Bureau of Land Management over the federal agency’s roundup of his cattle attracted a diverse group of foot soldiers: fellow ranchers, Las Vegans and militia and patriot groups were among them.

Their battle cry is the U.S. Constitution and liberty. They fear the federal government overstepping its bounds at every turn. This concern, in their view, applies to those from all walks of life, be it a rural Southern Nevada rancher or a militia member from northern Montana.

Ultimately, the Bundy protest — which was defused Saturday when federal land officials agreed to end the weeklong roundup that culminated in a 20-minute standoff between armed protesters and law enforcement officers — became an outlet for those wanting to voice their opinions about government overreach and any perceived infringement of constitutional rights.

Armed militia members wore holstered weapons and mingled with cowboy-hatted ranchers throughout the week. Tents popped up across the landscape and vehicles became temporary bunks as the Bundy ranch, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, turned into a gathering place for traveling pilgrims from across the nation.

“We’re all in this together,” said Rick Lovelien, 50, a militia member from Libby, Mont., with the Montana State Defense Force.

The armed standoff ended, Lovelien said, the way it should have — with the cattle returning to the land.

yes you are right but you also know that doesn’t mean Bundy or you or I can get away with it

I know, but I think people should publicly be making this a point. Show what a mockery of justice is occupying the White House right now.

This is a big story for them, especially since the rest of the media are ignoring it. Seems like they have come to their senses.

You also have to consider the provisions of the Treaty Clause, which was the part of the Constitution inovked. That’s how the West was won.

I don’t think that this is a constitutional matter. However, Bundy probably has legal recourse because of the manner in which the new terms and conditions were imposed, and also because of the improper application of remediation measures for the desert tortoise.

Unfortunately, Bundy hasn’t presented these issues as far as I can tell. He has no counsel and he has argued his cockamamie theories of federal ownership that the court has not bought. He is his own worst enemy at this stage.

So? It is well past time for us to stop worrying about how the msm will portray us regarding this, gov't shutdowns, traditional marriage, Christian doctorine, etc.

If you conform to the left so they don't denigrate you then you have lost.

BTW there is far more to this than non payment of grazing fees. Ask yourself why the feds would spend millions of dollars , bringing in hundreds of armed agents, some in full combat gear, helicopters, dogs, drones for this action which has been going on for 20 yrs while they, the regime routinely ignore, flout and break the law

Why here, why now?

Well, if that is the case, I daresay that there are a lot more Oathkeepers and Patriots than the several thousand who were in Nevada supporting the Bundy’s.

Why, we may number in the millions!

According to Bundy's daughter, through her response that was posted her a few days ago, Bundy's grandfather 'bought the rights to the Bunkerville allotment' back in 1887 (IIRC). Those rights were sold to Bundy's father who then passed them down to Bundy. Now, without seeing the deed, it's impossible to know what exactly was bought. She did explain that since the rights were purchased, the Bundy family has made improvements to the land such as water and road access and fencing.

Because of these statements, I'm not ready to call what the Bundy's are doing, 'illegal'. Fedzilla may be the illegal entity here.

Without being too self serving (because I do make some small change off my book) I think the only way to collapse Reid is for my book to go viral. But I am doing an important update, probably need about two more weeks. If I started making more than the bills off sales, I’d toss some to FR.

The real way to help is to get a campaign going to release the FBI report on Reid and his buddy Jay Brown, done about 1982. It’s been buried. I am trying to establish a ‘pattern of corruption’, because Reid will skirt single issues like the Rory/Solar deal. See here for why the FBI report is important http://www.futurnamics.com/reid_brown.php
