An Illinois House committee endorsed a plan today to contribute $100 million in state funds toward construction of a Barack Obama presidential library in Chicago.
The proposal, pushed by House Speaker Michael Madigan, goes to the full House next.
Madigan said it's appropriate for Illinois to commit public funds for the library even though the state is grappling with serious financial problems.

$100 !!!!!? How can that be? he hasn’t done anything worth putting in any library except maybe his real birth certificate.
Just wondering, did we have to pay for either of the Bush libraries? Or the Reagan library? Maybe we did, I just don’t recall hearing about it.
“While presidential libraries are traditionally funded mostly by private donations, Madigan pointed out that “close to $100 million in state money” was earmarked for the Abraham Lincoln presidential library in Springfield. “So we have precedent for this,” he said.”
Maybe they will have his college transcripts there.
Oh excellent, the first Ebonics library.
Take it from his vacation slush fund.
Because Illinois has so much spare cash
I think he deserves a Library, but I thought it was paid for in donations. did Texas pay for the Bush library? Did California pay for the Reagan Library? Serious questions.
..........I guess Illinois is ok but Hawaii would be farther from Texas so I prefer Hawaii..................Kenya would be even better.
Anyone can correct me if I am wrong on this but I don’t believe any federal money got spent on any of the 3 Presidential Libraries in Texas.
A $25 outhouse would be over spending!
