Eight million people signed up for healthcare, Obama announces ("This thing is working")

WASHINGTON — Driven by a last-minute flood of enrollments, particularly in California, sign-ups for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act’s online marketplaces hit 8 million in the law’s first year, President Obama announced Thursday.

That beats the forecast by 1 million people and caps a remarkable comeback from a disastrous rollout last fall that gave rise to predictions the law would collapse in its maiden year.

Instead, the health law, often called Obamacare, has helped bring about the largest increase in insurance coverage in the U.S. in half a century.

“This thing is working,” Obama said from the White House briefing room, taking a jab at Republican critics who continue to pledge to roll back the law. “The repeal debate is, and should be, over.”

California alone signed up more than 200,000 consumers for coverage in the last two weeks, the state announced Thursday, bringing the state's first-year total to nearly 1.4 million people, many more than any other state.

Millions more Americans have signed up for health insurance without using the marketplaces, including through Medicaid, employers or directly from insurers. That has helped to dramatically drive down the nation’s uninsured rate, according to a growing number of national surveys.

Estimates of the total gain in insurance coverage nationally are still preliminary. And enrollment is continuing on several state insurance marketplaces, which have extended their deadlines past the April 15 date used by California and the marketplaces operated by the federal government in 36 states.

Let me get this right... he gets 5 million people’s insurance cancelled, they go out and replace it, and he’s taking credit for that. Class act... all low.

And that's the best-case scenario, assuming that the numbers are real and that the insurance actually translates into healthcare, both of which are likely false.

This truly is the MO of a sicko abuser. Beat up, rob, starve, demoralize, and humiliate the captive, then hold out a hand of compassion. Or healthcare, as it were.

I would bet donuts to dollars that that last week or two, HHS had people sitting at computer keyboards with voter lists and they were adding people as fast as they could.

7.1 was the number of rows in the DB table that holds the enrollees information for this farce. Actual insurance policies not so much.

I am also guessing that there will be no independent audit to ensure that any numbers are correct.

Just curious, what source tells us that 5 million people’s health insurance have been cancelled?

HHS “Started” Individual Obamacare Applications Prior To Deadline, Obtained Personal Info From States
Shark Tank / FR Posted on Friday, April 04, 2014 by M. Thatcher

In the closing days of the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) , the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was mailing out letters notifying certain Americans that they had already started a healthcare coverage application on their behalf.

The HHS letter stated that the information they used to begin the application for individual Healthcare was obtain by the state agency in charge of implementing Obamacare.

The next step for the individual would be visit Healthcare.gov and complete the already started application to see if they qualify for “Marketplace coverage.”

News of the HHS letter was first mentioned by a listener of the popular “Daybreak with Drew Steele” Show on Fox 92.5, which is out of Fort Myers, Florida.(Excerpt)

NEED TO KNOW:

(1) which states participated in giving confidential information to HHS, and,

(2) how would state agencies know which of their citizens would want or need a new Obamacare-compliant policy.......without violating that individual's privacy--and without consulting the individual?

PLUS---this is a biggie: for an application to be legally enforced, the individual would have had to sign it. Who signed the app?

Forgery must be considered.

When a third party commits you to a financial transaction, that person is considered your fiduciary....and should not act WRT a payment method or other financial burden that conflicts with your best interests.

=============================================

NOTE WELL About a week ago, a few courageous people in California went public with the disclosure that in applying for health care on the state exchange, they received completed "voter registration forms" pre-checked “Democrat.”

Yeah, just who signed up, not who paid. The Leftists never tell you the truth, only half-truths. The reason they’re in power is the gullibility of enough voters.

IDK. Maybe there isn’t one. So many numbers floating around. I figured the poster was in a general sense describing how the POS is busy destroying real health insurance and healthcare and then offering out his hand to lift up the uninsured.

A whole lot more than 5 million are being abused. :(

So, 8 million people tapped on a few computer keys. That’s all.

I still believe they cooked the books to arrive at the 8,000,000 mark.

The longer this thing gets entrenched, no matter how disastrous, the harder it will be to get rid of.

I disagree. All it takes is a repeal of the mandate. Once the mandate is repealed, we can all go back to buying policies tailored to our individual life's circumstances (I don't need pediatric dentistry, drug rehab, maternity care, etc.). In all honesty, if the government wants to have a website to help facilitate PRIVATE insurance, so be it. Just don't force it on people.

There are at least 5 gigantic issues (among so many more) which are being ignored, suppressed, and/or actively lied about by the WH and its flunkies in the media, Congress, academia, etc:

1) how many have actually PAID premiums and will continue tp pay premiums for a long period of time;

2) what are the proportions of full-pay vs. different levels of subsidy vs. maximum high subsidy (Medicaid etc.);

3) how many of the enrollees were truly uninsured previously (probably only one million by some estimates) vs. those who had their prior plan cancelled and thus were forced to switch to Obamacare;

4) how many of the 7 or 8 million are DUPLICATE accounts (I know of someone who tried to register and ended up with TWO accounts because the first one was frozen/malfunctioning and then Obamacare ended up giving him a new ID number and new account — one person, two unique ID numbers due to website snafu;

5) how many people ended up with dramatically higher premiums and/or DEDUCTIBLES?? The issue of deductibles is hardly discussed, but that is where a lot of the drastic increases in consumer costs are going... for instance, I have heard of many people who previously had $1K or $1,500 can only get similar monthly premiums by accepting a plan with $6,000 or $10,000 (or I have even heard of $12,000) sky-high deductibles??!!??

Obamabots are lying by pretending the only cost comparison is between monthly premiums. If someone’s deductible and/or co-pays and/or out-of-network expenses go up dramatically then that person/family will bear much higher overall health care costs over time.
