Minimum Wage Increase Kills Another Business...(vanity)

This is a letter to the employees of a local restaurant. It's survived for decades, but is finally closing due to the latest increase in California's minimum wage. I guess it's better for the employees to have a higher wage, but no job with which to earn it.

Proving once again that the true minimum wage is zero.

It was right after TARP, and right after Obama’s election, and they pressured the bank to continue to give the company credit…a bunch of demonstations and so on…..

Probably some threats, or payola, or both, privately too. It’s chicago…..they can do anything with the right connections.

Visited a Japanese-owned restaurant in the Philippines a few years ago—the food was sent around the dining area on a conveyor. No wait staff—just technology.

No, no, no.

That is SO 1980s.

These days we ‘vaporize’ it... ...apparently.

Good waiters/waitresses are a dying breed anyway. Most of the good ones left are older and want to work. Soon they will be gone.

And you don’t have to worry about some sexual studies major screwing with your food for kicks with robostaff.

In socialist countries, you just cannot simply “close”.

So actually it’s more accurate than you think it is.

Wait till the robo chefs get installed in all the fat food joints.

Sir, with all due respect, you're dreamin'. If you've ever worked in one of these places you know that that is an impossibilty. It's a dirty, filthy, greasy job filled with many split-second decisions that only a human can make. While much of it is repetitive, much of it is not, and it's the not part that robots have a problem with. Not unless you can create a robot with the agility and decision making capabilities of a real human and that is not in the foreseeable future. The restaurants will close before robots happen.

You might want to read up a bit. Japan has been doing it for years.

I saw an estimate that 80% of sit down restaurants were on the edge of going under. The increase in neat prices and the min wage will finish off a bunch of them.

Well, as our good friend Hillary says, we can’t help it if so many businesses are undercapitalized.

I’m aware of what the Japanese have been doing and it’s very limited. It mostly seems to be little doors filled with food that was prepared sometime earlier by humans. Kinda like that “hotbox” at 7-11. Not a good way to eat.

I hope this place can get safely closed without being looted by the staff.

Sure but what exists is fully functional and has replaced thousands of people already. that tech will only get better.

Once all the fast food places adopt whats out there now, people will still go to them. The food there is ‘hotbox’ now. Yes ‘real’ restraints will take longer and may need more humans. But not forever and not for long. Even going to robo waiters will cut staff costs dramatically. and you do not need much more tech than a Roomba for that.
