I use it because it illustrates the complete lack of constitutionality in the majority of our government's operations — it also serves as an excellent example of how the Supreme Court ignores the Constitution to (a) justify how we've always done it
, or (b) pull some magic lawyerese out of their asses to expand [federal] government powers, or (c) both a and b.
As I count it the War on Drugs has adversely impacted 9 of the 10 amendments on the Bill of Rights — is that ok with you?
If it is; why? If not, then why do you insist that it's about drugs, my comment was plainly talking about the small
/good
/accepted tyrannies growing to large ones and those who claim constitutionalism yet support the very things that erode it.
No, drugs being illegal isn’t the problem. We can dump 95% of the government without legalizing meth and heroin for elementary schools.
But you can't keep the War on Drugs and simultaneously demand a Constitutional form of government.
The War on Druge is predicated on Wickard, which declared that Congress has the ability to regulate intrastate commerce.
Validating Wickard necessarily means that you accept that the Supreme Court is of a higher authority than the Constitution — for if the USSC was of lower authority, then they would be bound by it and could not make unlawful alterations, which is what Wickard did.
There are many, many cases which are decided contrary to the actual text of the Constitution in order to keep from harming the War on Drugs with Raich being the ultimate end thereof: logical nullity. (The USSC declared that noncommerce is also regulate-able under the interstate commerce clause.)
I think the Liberdopians would gladly support the most fascist leftist Democrat tyrant in exchange for a legal high
WTF are you on about?
Seriously, I raise a real, constitutional/liberty issue — indeed, my main issue all along — and you resort only to insinuating that it;s all about drugs.
Let me put it to you this way: how many of the Amendments of the Bill of Rights is it acceptable to curtail in order to keep the War on Drugs?
How much tyranny is acceptable to embrace to keep it?
Actually it very much is — the Constitution was required to be amended to allow the same restrictions WRT alcohol; why does the War on Drugs not require an analogous amendment?
When they came for the drug users, GeronL didn’t care, because GeronL is not a drug user...
Pretty much… but more, too:
When the courts pulled crap out of their asses to say it was legal to kill people that disagreed with government policy, who are obviously domestic terrorists, without trial GeronL accepted it as valid… because the courts said so.
And here comes the ad hominems.
“Angered over his criticism of Fluke, a campaign from leftist groups like MoveOn.org and Media Matters begins demanding to have Limbaugh advertisers drop the show. Seven do and a backlash against the fire-Limbaugh campaign begins. One advertiser asks to come back, Limbaugh refuses them. Limbaugh recovers, signs for new contract.”
What this article shows is that we have to constantly push back against this sort of thing. Anyone in business who wants to make money will soon realize that these fascists represent about 5% of the population and most of them don’t even have much disposable income.
Revolt is coming.
Why do you keep sending your kids to schools with shops selling heroin and meth? You sound like a really awful parent. Get off your lazy ass and put them in another school or home school them.
Bttt
Which of course NO ONE has ever advocated. That just illustrates how ridiculous the drug warriors position is. It isn't about heroin for elementary schools, it is about FedGov extra-Constitutional power.
Me too. It’s probably lingering hatred of the Bush administration and the people in it.
This article mentioned churches preaching against talk radio and FOX and I keep hearing about this, but Ive never heard anything like that in church and would be out shopping for a new church in a hurry if I did. The only “political” thing I recall them doing was an insert in the bulletin a few months ago urging people to pray outside abortion clinics. Unless you consider honoring veterans and people serving(not just Naval Station Everett, all of them) political, and I don’t.
