Rancher Cliven Bundy decided to lecture his supporters on slavery and the “negro” on Saturday. Media Matters posted the video:

Dude?

The Washington Post posted his comments:

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

” - - In the Negro Family Daniel Patrick Moynihan said essentially the same thing rancher Bundy said in his non-Harvard educated way.

So the most you could fault Bundy for his crude diction.

Unless you believe Moynihan was also a complete and utter fool. “

YES - BEARS REPEATING

I was indoctrinated in the soft socialism of the 1950’s. Could someone educate me on exactly what is politically correct now? “Negro” is obviously out? Is “caucasian” also out? Is the concept of race totally out? If so, what does “black” mean? How dark does one’s skin have to be to be “black”? Or isn’t skin tone the measure? If I have offended anyone, it is not intentional, please pardon me.

Why is HE or you worrying about what I write, be it "cotton candy" or not?

Because your response was to ME about MY statement.

In my world, that makes it my business.

-----

You MUST have better things to do than to follow MY comments.

I'm not 'following' you, I'm reading the thread. Paranoid much?

------

I thought that was the idea here....NOT scolding others for their own opinions.

No one is scolding you for your opinion, you're being scolded for a lack of facts. Which you have again sidestepped by spending your entire post whining about how badly you're picked on instead of RESPONDING to the conclusion generated by the sourced material.

----------

The government is in violation of Article 1, Section 10, Clause 1 - forcing Bundy to give up his water rights by manipulating the Terms and Conditions of the grazing contracts is an Impairment of Obligation of Contracts

Don't bother responding unless you can manage to include a statement pertinent to the subject under discussion.

I've had just about all the drivel I can handle for today.

with conservative talk radio and conservative politicians against him, it will take some kind of divine intervention (and I’m not kidding) for this to get righted.

Especially given the Mexican comments, Bundy has demonstrated that animus towards some racial group is not who he is. However, there’s no explaining what he meant if those spokespersons for conservatism won’t explain his side of this.

They’re not going to do it. It’s too involved, and they’ll be part of a feeding frenzy. To avoid that, they’re piling on, too.

It’s really odd. Bundy approves of illegal amnesty, came out in favor of it in public.

I support the old guy, but I truly think he just blew it. Because of that his case will be dropped, but probably get replaced by a more acceptable case....Red River, for example.

“I don’t think the feds can call off the dogs, because they know it will set a dangerous precedent for them”

*that* is the main point, I think.

They’ll wait a few months and then take him down, probably with the IRS.

I don't need to catch up with anything, thanks.

I've heard the claim that 53 other ranchers were driven out by the BLM. I've heard the claim that 52 other ranchers were driven out by the BLM. I have no doubt that ranchers were driven out of the area by the BLM. However, I've never seen anything that supports the claim that all ranchers who left the area were driven out by the BLM. Have you?

I have seen the growth of Las Vegas from 1974 to 2010:

I’m pretty sure being a slave is not a good thing without having experienced it.

I’m pretty sure being a slave prisoner is not a good thing without having experienced it.

I've never been a slave or a prisoner. But why should I base my impression of reality on your opinion about something that neither of us have experienced?

If these were his lands and he paid like everyone else, I’d be right by this guy’s side. But hes a deadbeat and may, indeed, be a bigot.

Oh, go wash it off. Then determine the facts for yourself, don't listen to talking heads trying to sell you toilet paper. Then try to see the big picture, not some vignette that slants the story.

Wow.

Can’t imagine anyone ever even copping to it these days. Anyone I know would find themselves unemployed, homeless and probably beaten half to death for saying it in public.

You get honesty points, that’s for sure. I’ve known two people who were fired on the spot for making racial jokes or using epithets.

Your intentions are good. However, once you are adequately indoctrinated on the topic of racial sensitivity, please proceed to the next reeducation camp for the LGBT gender sensitivity training.

Didn’t it occur to him that he was handing his enemies the perfect weapon that could be used to destroy whatever credibility he had?

And? Do you care about his enemies? Was he wrong? Why? Don't go into a knee-jerk defence mode, ask yourself why you are offended when someone is not PC. Are you PC? Then what are you doing here? If you are not PC, why are you posting this drivel? Think, man, think.

Well said.

and not to hold up Cliven Bundy as a hero.

I am interested in why not? I remember when blacks voted for George Wallace and someone asked them why would you do that? They said, "because we KNOW what he thinks".
