Some U.S. troops deployed to potentially dangerous or hazardous areas across the world will soon lose some extra pay.

The areas include East Timor, Haiti, Liberia, Oman, Rwanda, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Bodies of water removed from the list are the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman and the Red Sea. The land area and air space of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Serbia and Montenegro have also been removed from the list. . . .

A U.S. soldier stationed in an imminent danger area receives an extra $225 monthly stipend and two weeks of R&R after a 12-month deployment period. Starting June 1, about 50,000 troops stationed in the areas removed from the imminent danger criteria will no longer qualify for that extra pay and R&R.

Yeah, but the Obama phones keep flowing off the shelves. Why, if you are a deadbeat taker or an illegal immigrant, you can have one in every color and at the same time. You know it is important that your phone color coordinate with you outfit or your hair color of the day.

There is no shortage of tax money for the real important items. We makers just have to get our priorities straight and keep paying our taxes.

I agree with U.A.E, Saudi, Qatar,& Kyrgystan. Manas (Kyrgystan) was a nice, quiet little transition center where a person could decompress after 6 months of Bagram, or a year or longer in Afghanistan. U.A.E, Qatar, and Saudi are sweaty hellholes, but I never felt in imminent danger when visiting or transition. Don’t have any desire to go back, even if there was a monetary incentive involved.

I do however disagree with pulling R&R. Deployments do wierd things to military and civilians alike. People need time to decompress and readjust to being home again, before they’re ready for work.

This government is corrupt and broken beyond repair. We have an incompetent regime that rewards incompetence. The pathetic scumbags line their pockets and the pockets of other lowlifes while it punishes the soldiers who actually earn their money.

Spent 9 months in Oman during first Gulf War. Never felt I was in any danger but wouldn’t call it a garden spot, at least where I was. Troops stationed in Muscat said it was pretty nice.
