Meet the latest exhibit in the Republican elite’s crusade to wrest the party from the sticky fingers of its Tea Party rebels: newly minted Virginia House nominee Barbara Comstock.
Last Saturday, state delegate Comstock emerged victorious from her party’s nominating race to represent the 10th Congressional District. Of the six contenders, Comstock enjoyed the highest name recognition and by far the most love from the party establishment. Before her 2009 election to the state legislature, she toiled for decades in the political trenches as an aide, operative, consultant—you name it. She spent the early 1990s as a staffer to Rep. Frank Wolf (the man she now hopes to succeed), four years working for the House Committee on Government Reform (vigorously spearheading the Whitewater probe, no less), a stint doing opposition research for the Republican National Committee followed by a similar posting with Bush-Cheney 2000, a year or so running public affairs in W.’s Justice Department, and, most recently, a consulting gig with Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign.

The GOP just gave the seat to the Democrats. Comstock can’t get the support of the conservative base. The Republicans are committing political suicide.

The Republicans would far rather the seat go to a Democrat than a conservative. They can compromise with a Democrate (and almost always do to the detriment of the citizens); however, a conservative is less likely to compromise and will do things like hold the line on spending and tax inscreases, block gun control and other stuff that the Republicans don't like.

She is a warrior, a legendary opposition research master who is expert at finding opponents’ weaknesses and destroying them. She will be terrific in the House.

She worked for romney and kennedy.

Tuned into Joe Scarborough show this morning long enough to catch Tom Coburn, hero to many here on FR, scowling and sneering about the "outsiders" Palin, Cruz and Lee daring to weigh in on the Oklahoma Senate race to endorse T.W. Shannon.
Naturally Coburn donned his newest pair of spectacles and his latest hairdo--this a standard for him on Morning Joe appearances--but his bilious contempt for conservatives was his same old stock in trade.
These hoary insiders all decide at some point that only they are capable of steering the ship of state onto the rocks; anyone who comes along with a different view, a different idea or an identity outside the closed little circle of Washington butt-sniffers gets the big guns trained on them very quickly.
Oh but the leftists on Morning Joe got quite a chuckle out of Coburn and his apologies for his backward home turf and hatred for for all who might try to represent it more effectively than he.

Barbara Comstock is a RINO. If elected she will talk and vote like Susan Collins.
I know people who worked inside the GOP. Its even worse than you think. And yes, they fear and loathe the Tea Party more than they do the Democrats.
The GOP puts up a conservative fascade but its all a sham. They love big government every bit as much as their Democrat friends.
At any rate know that side with you. Republicans in power would rather play second fiddle to a leftist Democrat than cede influence to a solid, genuine conservative.
