The president of Harvard is named Faust?????
Seriously???

Faust is the protagonist of a classic German legend. He is a scholar who is highly successful yet dissatisfied with his life, so he makes a pact with the Devil,
...as is ‘Faustian bargain’. I thought the same thing!
I caught that too- the irony... he should read the story of Faust- it doesn’t end well... he is ripped apart by demons.
WOW!
I know that’s crazy. What are the odds?
I thought the same thing. How fitting, both making a pact with Satan.
This whole thing sounds so . . . Faustian!
If that is a surname he adopted as an adult of German heritage, then he must have known of the connotations. If that actually is his family name, perhaps he doesn’t know (of care) about the Faust of literature. Some families grow up amoral and completely secular, sadly seeing this as a state of achievement and progression. Some Jesuits may also fit this coldly linear description of detachment.
