Michael Savage: Pope Francis Should Redistribute Vatican's Income First
Newsmax ^ | 05/12/2014 | Greg Richter

Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage says if Pope Francis wants income redistribution he should start with his own Church.

On his Friday show, Savage said he would bid $1 million for Michelangelo's famous painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican.

"The reason I'm offering that money to the pope and the Vatican is so they can redistribute the wealth that begins in the Vatican itself," Savage said.

Savage said he was making a point that there is vast wealth within the Catholic Church, including priceless works of art and major shares in global companies. Gold ingots could be sold for redistribution purposes, Savage said.

Francis on Friday told a group of U.N. delegates, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, that they should urge world governments to back "the legitimate redistribution of economic benefits by the state, as well as indispensable cooperation between the private sector and civil society."

Savage's response: "It's Karl Marx in a papal outfit."

He noted that Francis is from Argentina, home to liberation theology along with much of Latin America, in the 1960s and '70s. And although Francis himself never practiced liberation theology, "he was certainly shaped by it," Savage said.

No, not whatever. Let's take it to the logical conclusion.

1. No more collections at the Church. 2. No more Catholic hospitals that treat everyone regardless of their ability to pay. 3. No more Schools of any kind. 4. No more materials for teaching the faith. 5. No more nursing homes for the elderly, including those who have no money to pay. 6. No more Parishes. 7. No more priests, because without the schools we will have no where to teach them. 8. No more soup kitchens. I could go on.

Pfff. I have even less patience for Michael Weiner “Savage” than I have for Pope Francis.

OK, Pal. This ain't what one might call "sophisticated financial thinking."

We sell every last church piece'o'real estate, large and small, every fresco, statue, monstrance, candlestick, gold-brocade vestment, organ, pyx, chalice, platen, altar cloth, reliquary (relic included), gem-encrusted miter, crozier, buckled velvet slipper, bishop's ring, pectoral ... sell it all. Give it to the poor.

Sotheby's to handle.

Buy every poor man, woman, and child a really nice ham sandwich.

Then what? Hate to break this to you, but churches operate like businesses. To help the poor, which is a primary mission, they have to (a) exist, and (b) have operating capital, facilities, and budgets, just like any other welfare agency.

Next time, you're in a richly artistic church, drop a few into the poor box, or better yet, write a check to the pastor, or an organization he might recommend.

Same principle: Confiscate every last cent of every last millionaire and billionaire in the US. You wind up with enough cash to operate the Federal Government for 25 minutes.

As to your claim that Savage is "just being stupid," I'll leave that alone as I never for one moment thought Savage was suggesting he was making a valid offer but said there were far wealthier people who would outbid his opening offer. I rarely listen to the guy as he drives me crazy - mostly but did happen to tune in this time to hear it.

I am unable to come up with the exact article that I read where all of the properties owned around the world, not to mention artworks and other tangible ownings came up with the total that the Catholic Church is wealthier than any other church or denomination!

There is such an article out there but I can't point to it right now and I'm not merely claiming that it exists - it does and is very credible as the Catholic Church validated it.

Maybe some other FRers can help me research this information.

“So if they do, then you will give up all your money as well?”

Nice attempt at a redirect.
usconservative wasnt the one calling for stealing money from some and giving it to others; or Marxism as the old word used to be.
Church leaders calling for Marxism as a solution to problems is not a good thing.

Real bright. Titus SOLD the temple artifacts in order to build the Coliseum. Perhaps that should be redistributed to Jerusalem.

“As a devout Catholic it does get tiring that I have to defend / explain the Pope’s words constantly. I miss B16.”

It would help if the current pope didn’t have a propensity to sound off without totally engaging his cranial matter first. It tends to negatively affect that infallibility thing.

C'mon Church leaders are not calling for Marxism, they are calling for Christianity. Let those who have ears, let them hear.

No kidding? But the media is so conservative, I can't believe they would twist a pope's word to fit their agenda.

Do I really need to tag it?

Why are you asking me that? Because I’m Catholic? Why do you say that we do?

And how about giving the Temple stuff depicted on the Arch Of Titus back to the Jews.

That was looted by Titus, a pagan Roman Emperor. Is any of it still somewhere in Rome? If it is, it would be truly astonishing, given the corruption of Emperors and Popes, and the many times Rome has been looted over the last 1900 years.

Gold and silver objects were the first things looted, and usually melted down. Even bronze didn't escape. That's why we have few bronze statues from ancient times, whereas we have a lot of marble ones.

Michael Weiner knows nothing about the Pope or the Catholic Church. He’s a non-practicing Jew.

When forcibly done through government; it is Marxism and is wicked.

the Catholic Church is wealthier than any other church or denomination

Why would this not be expected, as it is the largest and oldest of all, and was for many centuries the owner of up to 1/3 of European land?

Please, not this nonsense again.

Like any of that stuff has been anywhere in Rome for any of the past 1500 years.

Well not really. Infallibility pertains only to faith and morals and this has nothing to do with it.

‘I am unable to come up with the exact article that I read where all of the properties owned around the world, not to mention artworks and other tangible ownings came up with the total that the Catholic Church is wealthier than any other church or denomination!’

The Roman Catholic Church is BY FAR the largest Denomination in the World. It is also, with its’ 25 other aligned churches, Eastern Orthodoxies and others, the Largest institution in all of human history. Larger than the ENTIRE Muslim religion. When aligned Churches to Rome are included, there are more than a Billion and a Half Catholics aligned with Rome.

It is only logical that it would have the largest supply of churches, art work, land and institutions of any other religious organization.

Governments can steal and redistribute property without being Marxist. Happened long before Marx was born.

Of course, most of the theft has always been from those who were wealthy but not powerful, and the redistribution was generally, but not always, not to the poor but to those in control of government.
