SOUP, SEX, SALAD, or SUDS

MEN MYTHS.

Setting the record straight!

What is it about men that seem to bug everyone in today's society? Everywhere you turn it appears that Guys are the butt of every cliché imaginable. Show me a commercial that depicts a man in a favorable light, when pitted up against women, or even his children, you can't and that is just wrong. What have we done to be so maligned in today’s culture?

I think it’s time to correct the record, at least where I can add my extensive knowledge and expertise. Let us start with some of the most egregious examples of man bashing where food is concerned;

Well, .. a.. OK, so what? Throughout recorded history, it’s been Men that has shaped the course of advancement for mankind, and to use a few minor flaws to define us, is patently unfair, and petty, if you ask me. These are the familiar and excepted rubs against men in general, and single men in particular.

Men prefer Beer over a Salad by a factor of 8 to 1. How do I know this, and why it's reliable, I did the study.  I didn't depend on some peer reviewed research that could be manipulated by eggheads that use new math and thousands of people over years to compile,  I took my own survey from my facebook friends. These are real people, some of which I know from threads that I wrote, and that "liked" my stuff, some of the time. Some of them have current pictures of themselves on their own pages, so how could that go wrong? I posted the questionnaire on line and the responses were insightful, and lets just say, creative, and I would show them to you if the publishers weren't such sticklers for punctuation and so prudent in their attitudes, also there are  laws that prohibit some content, but what ever. Among the more notable respondents, are at lest two Nobel prize winners, a Congressional Medal Of Honor recipient, and one that claims to have several PHD's in pertinent subjects that have remarkable claims of achievements, in this area of study..

To summarize the results, of the 8 that could be considered reliable and confirmed by documentation they provided, 7 were in the affirmative, and 1, that was definitely in conflict with the majority.

Rush pointed out this trend years ago. Nothing new here. Just same old propaganda.

I can’t believe this was actually a study. The man rankings of top five preferred activities are pretty clear.

1. Sex
2. Sex
3. Sex
4. Sex
5. Beer

The older I get, the more beer moves up. Beer is more likely to happen

What have we done to be so maligned in today’s culture?

We were born.

But some have something to add to the discussion:

Hee-hee. You always make me smile when I see your posts.

I’m of the salad persuasion, over the beer. But then again, I’m female so go figure. :) And I do NOT mock men. Just ask my husband, unless he does something REALLY stupid, then all bets are off.

Working on a college campus with 30,000 students makes you a little numb to it, especially with yoga pants/shorts in style.

“Show me a commercial that depicts a man in a favorable light, when pitted up against women, or even his children, you can’t ...”

Actually, you have to narrow it down a bit more. Certain men are often shown as strong, bright, and perfect in every way (though women are even above them in commercials). Certain other men are almost always depicted as weak, infantile, incompetent, effeminate jokes. I guess liberal women just eat it up, and the men live up to their depiction.

Well, the beer doesn’t want to “talk about our relationship” afterwards, and you can stop holding it the second you are done.

I don’t watch Tv as a habit (usually when I’m in a bar) but I saw one recently where a Real man was sitting watching out the window, his back wasn’t at the door and the black cook was cooking, watching him. They brought whatever he ordered over to him and everybody looked at each other and all eyes were on him. “Maybe he gonna kick our ass or shoot Us.” He bit into it, turned to the cook, slowly, and nodded. THAT is a real commercial.

That certainly would defy the usual presentation.

The amazing thing is that I cannot remember the products in most of them. McDonalds or car insurance??? All I remember is that the dorky, white husband was saved from his idiocy by his super-smart wife and the black person, while being mocked by his children, and perhaps suffering some physical violence.

I figured out, 19 years ago, that television is anti-man propaganda. It hit me while watching a cop show (Hill street blues type stuff). There were three main characters: A good guy woman, a good guy partner who was male, and a bad guy they were trying to catch. And ignoring the gender of the characters, if one were to just listen to the script, one would assume the two good guys were typical women and the bad guy was a typical man.

I mentioned this on FR back in 99 and someone pointed out that soap operas have been like that for a LONG time. The good guys were so touchy feely that they were really men playing women’s roles. ;-)

Guys are the butt of every cliché imaginable.

Only white, straight guys. If the guys are Christian, gun owners, and/or Southern, then it's even worse.

Women are more fruit and vegetable oriented than men. Omelets and cheese too. More vegetarian. Men are more into red meat but of course women eat it too...just less. This is why steakhouses are seen as clubby masculine hangouts...or used to be before black football players started lip locking their white boy toys

Women like boneless skinless chicken breast. That stuff is disgusting and artificial. Give me chicken and turkey legs! I like raw vegetables like a cucumber and green pepper salad I had a few days ago with shoulder lamb chops. Raw veg and fruit are good for you. I have a high speed Breville juicer and sometimes start the day with juice from two celery bunches eating nothing solid until late in the day

Another-— Men like red, women like white wines. (obviously)
