Tea Party Express Co-Founder Backs Immigration Overhaul Efforts (Teams w/ Grover Norquist)
Roll Call ^ | Wednesday, May 14, 2014 | Emma Dumain

Sal Russo of the Tea Party Express broke the news in an op-ed titled “Conservatives Need to Fix the Broken Immigration System,” published by CQ Roll Call early Wednesday morning.

In that piece, the longtime GOP operative and consultant argued that “conservatives should be at the forefront of reform so the law reflects the just interests of the United States, not misty-eyed ideals of some of the liberal do-gooder reformers.”

That means no special pathways to citizenship that allow undocumented immigrants to cut in line, Russo cautioned, but rather some reasonable procedures that require “the 11 million people who are here illegally obey the law, pay taxes and come out of the shadows.

“We have to get them right by the law in exchange for legal status, but not unbridled amnesty,” Russo wrote. “This should include penalties, background checks to root out criminals, and the requirement that they learn English, understand the Constitution and be committed to our basic freedoms.”

A source familiar with the rationale behind Russo’s decision to make public his support for an overhaul told CQ Roll Call that Russo was urged to speak out by the Partnership for a New American Economy.

The coalition of “500 Republican, Democratic and independent mayors and business leaders united in making the economic case for streamlining, modernizing, and rationalizing our immigration system” will compliment the rollout of Russo’s op-ed with a Wednesday afternoon conference call, the first in a monthly series of such calls focused on “the need to fix the broken immigration system.”

The calls will be moderated by Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, and Russo will be among the first slate of guests.

No matter how you finesse it, it's amnesty and citizenship for illegal aliens. No thanks.

?Here is what we should do- Since Libtards have been harping on “immigration reform” we should make a plan that does everything we want and CALL IT “immisgration reprm” and then puish its passage.

Use the libtards’ own tactics

Stop importing everything.

Bring back JOBS.

Then start talks about amnesty and all the rest. But jobs have to be here first.

Sorry Sal old boy, surrendering to an invading force isn’t “fixing” anything.

Ridiculous.

So they want us to lose? Are we sure they are not democrats working within the Republican Party. Isn’t there a rule in rules for radicals that says to infiltrate and destroy within?

The problem is the law could be written by yours truly and it wouldn't matter. It has been proven by actions of the POTUS that anything any POTUS doesn't like won't be enforced.

The nature of our government is that legislation is worthless, laws mean nothing, and paper is but paper.

Nothing will be enforced except for the amnesty provisions of any legislation. Just like we don't enforce any of the laws on the current books.

Don't any of these ass hats understand this? Why would any new laws be enforced while current, good law, is not enforced?

POTUS is basically a dictator, no matter who it is, so this is all words are wind tripe.

Voters need to get a freaking clue. You don't have to be a genius to see this.

Any one who teams with Grover (I am really just a muslim in disguise) Norquist is no better than a cheese eating surrender monkey.

Borders, language, culture....until the US starts caring about those three things the missies and commies will win

1. If they won’t enforce the laws we have NOW, what makes any thinking American believe that they will enforce any future law that does anything but facilitate MORE illicit migration?

2. Once illegals are normalized, what’s to stop new alien migrants from stepping into the slots that will be abandoned by our esteemed new citizens or “legalized” class of migrants?

3. Why the big push? What is the emergency for Americans? Certainly it’s hard to live in a country that you have stolen into and defrauded. It bloody-well should be!

2 choices really, either have a plan such as this with NO MORE welfare of any kind or continue the existing welfare programs with strict immigration controls. Either/or. Can’t have it both ways otherwise the nation’s economic death spiral is assured......

Or, we could enforce our sovereignty and stop the government from playing social engineer. But wheres the fun for politicians in that?

Agree!! Plus, anyone who "teams" with Grover Al Norquist needs to be completely ignored.

Stop the entitlements and enforce our EXISTING laws and our *immigration problem* will fix itself.

Send the illegals home - fix the border - then we talk about WHO WE WANT AS OUR NEIGHBORS...

I don’t want anyone living here who got here by breaking the law. It’s a bad start and a telling one.

Simple “overhaul”:

Enforce laws against employing illegals like you enforce drug laws. Asset forfeiture for *anyone* involved in the hiring, including the homeowner who hired the lawn care company who employed the illegal.

Even if you don’t make the end consumer liable, and make only the business liable (who can conduct a check) there won’t be a job for illegals because no farm owner will want to lose his farm because he employed illegal farm workers.

No deportation needed. They’ll all go home.
