that insipid PC “It’s a Small World” ride

I wonder if they ever thought of using that tune to extract information from the guests at Club Gitmo. It would have been just as effective as water boarding.

Some movie I attended recently had a brief promo prior to the showing, celebrating the guy who wrote the "Small World" song 50 years ago, who now appears to be senile (small wonder). I couldn't contain myself and said in a loud voice, "He should be taken out and shot!"

I dimly remember Knott's when I was a kid, lots of old locomotives to crawl around on.

Think they had a train ride where outlaws would come on and hold you up with scary guns.

Imagine an amusement park doing that now?

Went there three Saturdays ago and all the good rides were either broken (Pirates, Small World, Alice, submarines, and many more). Or, broke on us while we were either in line, or on the ride. Some in our party had to be escorted out/off (Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Jungle Cruise, and several others).

All the customers were complaining, but I doubt there were any refunds issued.

I love seeing old menus, particularly railroad dining car menus. A time when the saying, “That and a quarter will buy you a cuppa coffee”.

I was thinking Knobel when I was reading this thread... I imagine it is only a matter of time before that place is wrecked too, though.

My aunt and uncle would take me there for Sunday fried chicken dinner.

I remember Knotts' fried chicken dinners in the 70's. They were good!

Naah...The Knoebel’s are sort of the Yuenglings of the amusement park world. Family owned and run.

My family went to Disney several weeks ago and Disneyland was exactly like that. In the first 90 minutes most of the rides were shut down. Afterwards a bunch of the rides weren't open all day. They had better luck at California Adventure, but I think they do a lot of heavy tear down in the Spring prior to the Summer Season. Tickets are the same price.

if you want to go for three days, and are affiliated at all with the military, you can buy special passes for $126 for three days, your choice of park per day. It was a pretty good deal,

That’s weird! I arrived at I Corps G-2 exactly 10 years later. I was one of the “hotline operators” (DMZ intelligence & early warning analysts) up in the bunker at CRC.

In the early 90’s I attended Biola, my two brothers and I would meet there because you could get in. My two brothers, sister-in-law and I got our pictures taken in the old west attire, and found out you could go in for one hour for free. (Just say you were eating, or getting photos taken). So we had much fun seeing how many rides we could get in.

Now you pay the admission fee, and it gets refunded if you’re out in an hour. ;)

____

I just bought our last season pass for Disneyland. We hadn’t been in about five years. The famous customer service is long gone, long lines, cranky cast members...blech.

At least the A-B could get you on a few good ones like Peter Pan. I loved being suspending instead of on a track.

Mr. Toad was okay. I actually remember the first year of the Pirates of the Caribbean and it was a long line. We saved up E tickets for it. Never got to the Haunted House as a kid, we moved away from CA by the time it was finished.

I rode it on Disneyland’s 30th birthday in 1985. I was no my honeymoon! lol

Took my daughter to both Disneyland and Disney World(FL)for free.
That was about 15 years ago. She had an online girlfriend who’s mother worked in the California Disney head office.
I went to Disneyland Hong Kong about 5 years ago.
Disney remains a remarkable corporation.

What, exactly, is there to do in the “Tom Sawyer’s Island” area? From what I’ve read, there are no attractions there: no restaurants and no rides.
