Where will those cars go? There will be lines of thousands of cars at the car wash.
I guarantee there will have to be government involvement. Letting the goobermint drive your car with you in it, in real time. What could go wrong?
They will all just head back to the Dealers to get expensive servicing.
I confused , I seem to share the road with a lot of people who already believe their cars drive themselves, because they spend their time putting on makeup, reading, talking on the phone and texting.
How do you know your vehicle won’t take the afternoon off while you are at work and take a few hot laps around the track?
I wonder if I could have it mow my lawn when it’s not driving me around.
And the trucks? And the bicycles? Can these fancy cruise controls tell there is a bicycle or a trike? Or a kid on a scooter? Or a wheelchair? Obviously not, and there will be accidents big time.
My car has intermittent wipers that can detect rain on the windshield. It’s a nifty little feature but far...FAR...from perfect. If the car can’t detect raindrops how’s it gonna detect red lights, oncoming cars and pedestrians?
The more automation you have the more driver skills deteriorate.
That’s been going on with planes for a while now.
When the automatic system needs the person to take over when the system fails or there is an emergency of some kind that it can’t handle... the person has terrible skills from sitting essentially as a passenger for so long.
Driving automation is not only unnecessary, it’s highly dangerous.
But don’t worry, the effect won’t become painfully obvious for years.
During that time we can keep deluding ourselves, repeating over and over that big business and the government will keep us safe.
“Or a kid on a scooter?”
I almost ran over a women with a stroller today. I’m making a right turn after the light turns green. She’s at the corner, acts like she’s waiting to cross my current street, but suddenly takes off across my path. The only reason I stopped in time is because I know how squirrely people can be and caught her body language. I’m not sure how you program a computer to watch for that.
Likely most of the time. People were working on these issues >8 years ago.
Here's one such scenario:
Eric Holder: "I have it on good authority that a Mr. USConservative on the WebSite FreeRepublic.Com has repeatedly called my good friend and our President, Barack Hussein Obama a worthless POS and worse, an assh*le. That's hate speech. We see that Mr. USConservative is now in his car, and thanks to OnStar's new autodrive feature we've locked his car doors and re-instructed his vehicle to take him post haste to the nearest law enforcement facility where he'll be quickly sent to a re-education camp. We cannot have dissent on the steets of America, and in about another 15 minutes Mr. USConservative will be off our streets, thereby returning peace and tranquility to all. That is all good citizens!"
Self-driving cars will encourage people to live farther from their jobs in less populated areas. This is good for Republicans, bad for Democrats. Look at any election results map: population density drives the demand for big gov.
Zactly!
What could possibly go wrong?
It could work like that, or maybe it would work as an incentive to pollute formerly good conservative areas with oxygen-thief liberals (like the exodus from Kali to Nevada and Arizona).
Personally I’m looking forward to this.
Nothing. Only good can come of this, because humans are the worst thing that has ever happened to this planet.
Yes, Humans who can hack the system and take control of your car.
