The most important thing with pet care is knowing what you can and can't feed your dog. That and capitalizing on your puppy for hilarious memes.

As long as you stick to a pretty decent doggy diet, everything should be gravy right? Wrong.

Turns out there's a ton of foods you probably didn't know about that can actually be really bad for your dog, including some that are perfectly healthy for humans.

After all, there's nothing worse than having your dog suffer over a simple mistake in diet.

While they're still man's best friend, they probably shouldn't eat like your best friend. Because we at Foodbeast care about you and your canine companions, here are 12 human foods that your dog should most definitely avoid.

* Chocolate
* Milk
* Cheese
* Onion
* Macadamia Nuts
* Garlic
* Grapes
* Avacodos
* Apple Cores
* Yeast Dough
* Caffeine
* Bacon

I have known a number of dogs who ate chocolate in quantity and suffered no ill effects.

Yep. Had a Chow that would raid Easter baskets every year for the large chocolate bunnies and anything else he could consume. Never bothered him.

We have Australian Shepherds; we also have apple trees and a grapevine.
One used to lay on her back under the grapevines. All the better to gobble them up!
You cannot believe the quantity of apples they eat! Evidence of the apple addiction is apparent when cutting the grass.

In all the years it has only been healthy dogs and routine vet visits.

He must have been in quiet agony. 1 lb. is a lot. It’s cramping me up just thinking about it. Hope he brushed his teeth.

The amount of apple seeds a dog would have to consume is huge. sigh....

I make my dog’s food and pressure-can it in batches. She gets beef and pork with a little veggies and lentils. Oh, and eggs mixed in. An almost spoon-standing stew she loves. I add fresh, chopped garlic. She gets cottage cheese (full fat) on the side in the moire and a little shredded cheddar and jack cheese at night on top. She has a little grain-free high-grade kibble (bison and pork mixed together) to graze on during the day.

She is very healthy, has a gorgeous double-coat, etc. Btw- the lower the fat in dairy products, the harder they are to digest for people. I wonder if the “scientists” used low-fat junk in their studies?.

* Chocolate

I had a sheltie that got into a bag of Hershey's kisses one Christmas, my daughter having left it on the floor of her bedroom. It was a full bag, she ate all of them, tin foil and all, and really, no bad effects. I had always thought that the chocolate thing was more of a thing about them eating it regularly, over time.

And, BACON is on this list. Are you kidding me? What dog doesn't love bacon. My corgi shares my bacon every morning.

My dogs are pretty sharp. I’ve two rescues that are hyper-alert, and a retriever that follows hand signals...unfortunately he has seen his last hunt:-(

They can groom themselves however they wish...I assume you’re sharp enough not to cater to their hygiene needs, outside of bathing.

My dog loves apple cores. I used to take out the seeds, which was time-consuming, until one day I asked myself 1) what were the chances that he would actually bite into an apple seed, which is where the cyanide is, and 2) how many seeds would he need to bite into to cause any harm.

* Milk, * Cheese, * Grapes, * Bacon

We have fed these to our Cairn Terrier in moderation since she was a pup but all our dogs liked Cool Whip the best.

She is Sixteen going on Seventeen and still quite frisky

Only recently heard about grapes being dangerous so she doesn’t get them anymore.

What are you, a Muslim? How can you say that bacon “sux,” as you so elegantly put it?

We had a dog that laid claim to an apple tree in the yard. SHe’d eat apples all day, and get mad at you if you dared pick one for yourself. She lasted 14 years.

I call BS on the majority of this list. Cheese? Bacon? Milk? Apple cores? Pish, tosh, nonsense and tripe!

* Avocados

Had an avocado tree in the back yard. Pup would not stay away from them. I would find pits all over the back yard where he had chewed the skin and flesh off of them. Never saw any negative results.

HAHA! True. Jacks are a breed unto themselves - wouldn’t have it any other way! The trick is to exhaust them every day. When they were little, my daughter would stand at one end of the soccer field, I at the other. The dogs would run back and forth till they could take no more. They’re old girls now (like me :) and it doesn’t take much to exhaust them, but they still need to run it off.

Deboned pork chops should be okay, but crap bacon high in polyunsaturates should be avoided. The other pork fats are reported to have health benefits — at least for humans.

I’m guessing high levels of sodium should also be avoided.

I’d rather feed my canine raw sirloin.
