The cruel and unusual aspect is so "not to inflict pain for the mere sake of inflicting pain", but this idea that an execution should be painless is simply hogwash. If the method of execution, is to execute them quickly, then there shouldn't be a problem. If the method used is purposefully painful, then I may have some small difficulty with it, but that is esoteric and not a controlling factor.
The whole objection is that they want to end capital punishment.
