Although he was a private when he was first captured by the Taliban, Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl was promoted twice in captivity and is scheduled for another promotion to staff sergeant.
CNNs Barbara Starr reports that a defense official confirmed that Bergdahl is scheduled for a promotion to the rank of staff sergeant later in June of this year.
Bergdahl was a private when he went missing and was promoted to the rank of specialist in June 2010. He was promoted in June 2011 to the rank of sergeant.

Exactly. Is BNCOC given in Pashtun these days?
Well Corporal is just an E-4 that is promotable, you don’t see that rank too often outside of the infantry though.
That’s how they are teaching our kids now; just show up at school or sports events, etc., and everyone gets the same recognition regardless of any effort to excel or do any work.
I’m not sure how promotions to the SNCO ranks work in the army, in the Marine Corps we were selected for promotion to SSgt and above by a promotion board. The board took into consideration the following things; PFT scores, Marksmanship scores, BST scores, Fitness Reports, and our entire Service Record Book. There were other criteria they used but only the Promotion board knows what that is. The boards are pretty tight lipped about how they come up with their lists. Does the army just promote based on time in service and time in grade?
It is my understanding that while classifed as a POW, rank advancement is automatic based upon time in grade and service.
Will be interesting to see if that happens, now that words from his fellow soldiers are being made public.
I’m waiting for his anti-American internet posts before he went AWOL, to go viral.
What bothers me about this is, just as with Benghazi, those closest to the event and survived had to sign nondisclosure forms. That seems to me to indicate there is something to hide.
Recall that Obama said in August of 2010 that “The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth are people with something to hide.”

Promotions: POW personnel continue to be considered for promotion along with their contemporaries. Policy provides for each missing or captured officer/enlisted member to be considered for promotion to the next higher grade when they are eligible. The eligibility for officers is based on the date of rank in their current grade. For enlisted members, eligibility is based on time in grade and time in service.
I was an E-6 after going through OCS....until the 2LT paperwork came through. Never made E5....was E-4 then jumped to E6 after OCS graduation, then 01. We had 70 start our OCS class, 14 finished, one of them turned down his commission to stay E-6 for a year until he was able to get into Warrant Officer Course. I have no idea how this Taliban Private made it to US SSG....
If this guy were black they’d make him a full bird Colonel upon his return to the US
The Army has developement course for every rank from E-5 to E-9, you need acceptable PT, Marksmanship, personell folder to include awards etc, and it doesnt hurt to have some education. Promotion is based on total points and the point cut off in your MOS(ie if you have 260 pts but the cut off for your MOS is 280 you are SOL)
The Washington Post is the only media that is telling the true facts on this story. See: http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/mixed-reaction-to-bergdahls-recovery-by-service-members-who-consider-him-a-deserter/2014/06/01/3713e3ce-e9c5-11e3-b98c-72cef4a00499_story.html
Or gay
“Hell get all his back-pay.”
Humm, it he had remained in captivity for only three more years he would have made Sgt Major. That would have been a hoot...
Believe it or now, it's leaking out into the leftist media, too:
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
promoted for what?? treason?
Notice the link-connection to Michael Hastings in above Washington Post article Wonder what else he told Hasting .
Makes his fathers comment about “sending people” he could trust even more suspicious.
Did his family talk to Hasting?
POW’s have always been promoted on time, regardless of any other criteria, including performance. It’s considered difficult to complete PLDC whilst in captivity.
