Chuck Todd: White House Expected ‘Euphoria’ Over Bergdahl’s Release

Todd: White House was 'caught off guard'

MSNBC’S Chuck Todd observed Tuesday that the White House was “caught off guard” by the disastrous public roll out of their prisoner exchange for Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.

Todd and Andrea Mitchell agreed that the White House had likely thought there would be “some euphoria around this, the only POW that was remaining in Afghanistan, that there would be a rally around the flag. That didn’t happen.”

“They were expecting criticisms of Gitmo, criticisms of the detainees that were chosen,” Todd said. “They did not expect this criticism of the attempt to go get Bergdahl in the way that it was done.”

Todd noted the White House’s change of tone over the last several days, using as an example a Pentagon spokesperson who defended Bergdahl’s rescue in the New York Times today by citing the Navy’s policy of rescuing sailors who go overboard, regardless of whether they fell out of the ship or jumped themselves. “That wasn’t necessarily what they were saying on Sunday.”

Yes, it did, but not in the way they wanted it to.

Another sign that Mr. Obama and his coterie of friends and advisors have little or no understanding of America outside the faculty lounge, government agency or union hall.

I doubt it. Obama and his Muzzie buddies in the White Hut know full well what they are doing. Every day Obama and co. serve up some new insult intended to insult the American people. It is in your face. It accomplishes several things at once.

1. It sets precedents to undermine our constitutional government and rule of law.

2. The timing of the events are carefully controlled so as to be a continuous and unrelenting assault on American freedom and values. People are too overwhelmed to even keep track of all the lawbreaking by the Obama administration.

3. The events are specifically intended to upset conservatives by keeping us off balance and in a constant state of alarm and pissed off mood. 4. Combined with a do nothing Congress the events demoralizes those of us who actually give a $hit so that many conservatives will simply say F'it and give up.

I totally agree, and would add a 4th point, that these actions are also signals to our enemies, to show them how our power has dissipated and how we no longer have the backbone to prevent ourselves from being humiliated by our own government.

Because it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Note to Chuck Todd:

UNLESS there are far more American military members who have taken off their body armor
their helmet
their web equipment
and put down their rifle,
then took plenty of water & a knife & walked off their posts in their combat zone in the middle of the night——I don’t think there should be expected ‘euphoria’ about this person coming home.

HE is NOT a POW. He walked away from his post in the middle of the night. He is a DESERTER.

Learn the difference.

It ain’t going away. We aren’t that stupid here in ‘flyover country’.

Many though lack the ability to understand desertion and capture. But they can watch complicated television programs that put others to sleep.

A “community organizer” is the Democrat nominee in TX to succeed Wendy Davis in the state Senate. People in TX could also fall for “community organizers”.

WTF?! Did you photoshop that?

Let's put it this way; if I were Susan Rice and you asked me that question on a Sunday morning talk show, the answer would be no.

Leave it to the Obama administration to try to cover up a scandal with...another scandal.

The exchange was motivated by panic

The VA scandal is among the very worst in American history.
It is a political disaster requiring extreme action to get it off the front page. It was deemed better to take heat for a fait accompli.
