SAN DIEGO (AP) — A former Blue Angels commander tolerated inappropriate sexual comments and pornographic images in the workplace — including photos of naked women in the cockpits of the precision flying team's planes — during his time as its leader, the Navy said Tuesday.
Capt. Gregory McWherter was found guilty of violating two articles under the military's code of justice during nonjudicial proceedings convened Monday in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The articles were failure to obey an order or regulation and conduct unbecoming of an officer by fostering a hostile command climate and failing to stop "obvious and repeated instances of sexual harassment, condoning widespread lewd practices within the squadron and engaging in inappropriate and unprofessional discussions with his junior officers," the Navy said in a statement.
He will be given a letter of reprimand that will go in McWherter's permanent file and is widely seen as a career-ender in the service. McWherter told Navy officials he did not wish to speak to the media, said Cmdr. Kevin Stephens, a spokesman at Naval Air Forces.
The Navy said his command had explicit pornography, including photos of naked women, in aircraft cockpits; the painting of male genitalia on the roof of the center point trailer at the Blue Angels' winter training facilities in El Centro; and "sexually charged, raunchy, and homophobic humor" on maps and itineraries.

Airmen being airmen. My husband's AME for the last 10 years has offered him Cialis at every medical. He's always declined. It disgusted him. I went along once and got to see a very happy airman in uniform exiting with his swag bag. As an adult, woman pilot this stuff doesn't faze me, though I don't approve. I'm an adult, not a pc, easily offended little girl. I think the bolded word is the money winner.

I work at a University and no inappropriate images are supposed to be allowed - what they mean is no half naked women may be seen - lots of women including some of the bosses have calenders of barely clothed firefighters or male dancers on their walls - and you better not say a damn thing about it!

Not condoning that type of thing, but if the Armed forces went after every incident like this, our military would be cut in half.

I want flyers who can fly, shooters who can shoot, bombers who can bomb, fighter pilots who can shoot down, missile officers who can land ordnance on the target. Beyond that, as a Christian, I would prefer they followed Christian morality, but as a taxpayer, I do not care what pictures are in the cockpit, I care who sits in the cockpit. To quote a present CinC: if I like my Blue Angels, I should get to keep my Blue Angels. PERIOD.
