Women are having fewer kids, and demographers don't know why

Because demographers are idiots, or at least ignorant of reality.

"..even over the course of the country's five years of slow but steady recovery."

'Recovery'. Heh. doesn't rate an 'lol'; it's not funny. When balanced with the damage this administration has piled upon the last one, coupled with the fact that NOTHING has changed insofar as the conditions that created the 'financial crisis'...the word 'recovery' is best defined in this case as 'Hospice'...

"..more births during the recession and recovery.."

When Hispanics stop having children, you know it's bad out there.

" ..as the economy gathers strength"

That quote was preceded by the phrase 'fertility rates'. The author is a bigger idiot than the demographers. I'm not even going to address the phrase as quoted; it's just propaganda from the ignorant.

"..has had the most punishing impact on demographic trends of anything since the Great Depression"

That statement is the worst of all by Kenneth Johnson, shining example of how college fails many adults (or perhaps the converse is more true): The truth is that GOVERNMENT has had the most punishing impact on demographic trends of anything since the 'first' Great Depression...

Now, of course, I snarkily suggest that an upcoming crisis portrayed by Dear leader or its replacement will be the 'baby gap' and the 'War on Negative Birth Rate' will result in more moronic subsidies (i.e., EIC and/or 'free college') for couples to have babies. Natch.

Read your Bible, starting in Genesis and see how God will deal with many if not all in a nation that has spit in His face.

So explain why your God doesn’t make infertile the populations in Islamic countries or those of Islamic immigrants?

Regardless to current consensus, God does not interfere in the doings of mankind.

"getting yourself pregnant."

LOL. Only because I have heard that phrase used before, and it sounded silly even then.

Although, with modern technology, it is actually possible.

The idea that anyone is satisfied and happy with trusting God to give them what He thinks they need is foreign to most people today. Such a sad way to live, not trusting God.

GOD (needs) vs. DEVIL (wants).

Guess which side is winning ?

Very simply, our culture has accepted artificial contraception wholesale, and is now reaping the consequences.

A person may be against abortion, but are they open to life?

It’s common in historical novels. And you’re right, nowadays it can be done!

Just go to a Target store or Wal Mart in Texas. The Mexican women in there with a zillion kids each tagging along. I wonder to myself how on earth will they support them all, then I remember that I will be helping along with other taxpayers. It’s like going to Mexico.

“But the number of children per Hispanic-American woman has plummeted from just under three in 1990 and 2.7 as recently as 2008 to 2.19 in 2012, just above the replacement rate.”

Hmmm, sounds like Texas and much of the country can stay Republican MUCH LONGER than previously thought, assuming that we can STOP AMNESTY from being passed.

The Democrat strategy is smart and making sense. They tell us that will out-populate us anyway, and that the ONLY WAY to get them to like us, at least a bit, is to pass Amnesty.

It’s actually a pretty desperate strategy, but you have Republican leaders (i.e., Rove, Rubio, McCain, Gram, etc.) that are actually STUPID ENOUGH to buy into that.

...now with this data - if we SEND THEM HOME, the demographic makeup of the country will change VERY LITTLE in the succeeding years.

“We need to get rid of public education altogether. The two problems DO seem to be related...”

It is imperfect, but I couldn’t imagine a system where a permanent underclass of completely uneducated parasites exists to prey on those that give a crap. I know we have that situation now, but at least we force them into the classroom (off the streets) by threatening the welfare sows’ welfare.

“Which means we may see a baby boom in 2017-2020, after the Democrats are out of power and the economy improves enough for repressed population pressure to be relieved. Or come to life.”

I don’t think the working middle class birthrate will recover anytime soon; like the Depression in the 30s, this economy is leaving a mark on many people that will last decades. The foreclosures and effects of long-term unemployment won’t be forgotten by the generations impacted here.

I understand, but after one or two the impact is a bit muted. People will make their individual choices about breeding; they should just understand the consequences. I’m tired of the numerous childless-by-choice fifty-somethings I hear complaining about the number of foreigners around them; what did they think was going to happen?

In simple terms, kids are less affordable, and there is too much uncertainty in our society. Both of these can be laid at the feet of the little man with cheeks of tan.

My kids don’t want to have children until they are sure they can support them. They are having trouble eking out a meager existence in this economy.

I will probably have more. My life is settle. My wife’s and I’s schedule is already set. We are close to both of our parents and all of siblings, so it is easy to get reliable help, My medical insurance won’t change. My home and car can carry 4 more. We have plenty of hand me down clothes for the next ones.

It’s called ‘cultural suicide’ and it’s NOT caused by a financial crisis. Joseph Lawler needs to understand this...

In a little more than a hundred years there won’t be enough Germans to keep the German language alive. And yeah, there will be humans who occupy the land known as ‘Germany’ but they won’t be ‘German’. And they won’t speak German. It’ll be the same here.

The white middle class is only having as many kids as they think they can get through college. With today’s tuition prices, that’s one. Maybe.

Yep.

The country of Turkey is a good example. The native Anatolians are so forgotten that even educated people seldom realize those Turks originated far to the east of present Turkey.

Who wants to bring kids into the ‘United States of Leftist Ideas’? A person would have to be a fool to have children now. Black, brown, or white - every city will be Detroit.

Best of luck; it is a struggle that I couldn’t imagine doing without. Be fruitful & multiply!
