Democratic senator Puckett resigns, adding to state budget turmoil
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 6-8-14 | Bob Brown

State Sen. Phillip P. Puckett- D-Russell has resigned his seat, leaving Democrats one vote shy of the majority they need to control the chamber.

Puckett's stunning resignation throws Democratic budget strategy into chaos and opening the way for Republicans to seize control of the chamber and reorganize its committees with GOP majorities.

“I am deeply disappointed by this news and the uncertainty it creates at a time when 400,000 Virginians are waiting for access to quality health care, especially those in Southwest Virginia,” Gov. Terry McAuliffe said in a statement.

Southwest Virginia is trending Republican big time. This is a now a heavily Republican district, according the data provided by those jerks as Daily Kos (who crunch numbers pretty well)

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/07/09/1220127/-Daily-Kos-Elections-2012-election-results-by-congressional-and-legislative-districts?detail=hide#VA

It went 67% for Romney and 65% for Allen in 2012.

Puckett won 53%-47% in 2011, clearly only personal popularity saved him. This should be a gimme with control of the Senate at stake.

Was gonna ping VA Freeper Corin Stormhands to this, but he’s been absent for 3 years, apparently.

And the state was getting high marks for being well run and a good place to do business. Unfortunately the past governor couldn’t convince his family to keep their “hands out of the cookie jar” and we ended up with the carpetbagger. Every GOP member of the legislature needs to remember they have a target painted on their back and must keep their affairs squeeky clean in these tenuous times.

Whatever thwarts Democrat plans is good news.

...400,000 Virginians are waiting for access to quality health care...

Wait, isn't FUBOcare settled law? How come those 400,000 aren't covered?

Then again, maybe McAwful doesn't consider FUBOcare to be "quality" coverage.

Is Puckett the RAT state senator frow SW VA? If so, you’re right, this should be an easy GOP pickup, and the GOP will have control of bothe houses of the VA state legislature until at least the November 2015 elections.

This is a stunning lie by Gov. Terry McAuliffe!

He also said that he would NEVER hold the budget for the State of Virginia hostage to Obamacare!

Virginia is eat up with voter fraud. That’s how we ended up with the current batch. Even the Democratically-controlled newspapers didn’t like McAuliffe

No. His daughter has been denied a judge position because he is a Senator.

Yes. Presuming no defections or retirements. Might be some RINOs unhappy with Republicans being in charge in the Senate.

It went beyond the McDonnell, tho that was pretty clever of Holder and his DOJ to make the family’s woes a federal case. There was Lt Gov Bolling and Rove, and the GOP national establishment that all backed away from Cuccinnelli. He did the most unRepublican of all things, stepping out of turn.

yep, the House of Delegates rep from the area just announced today. I think they are assuming a special election in Nov with the winner assuming office before the next General Assembly in January. Also, not a lot of Dem office holders in the area, so their candidate is up in the air.
